I started off with hitting the Brownies game after work with DanO and LFIJ, Tyler, Dad, and Mrs. Malto.
Yesterday was our summer cook off. (FTR, before my daughter left for CA, we started a summer throw down where we pick a common ingredient, whip it up, and invite Friends and Family to judge who's is best).
Since she is back in MI. we decided to continue the tradition and it doubled as a housewarming for them.
This years common ingredient was beer.
My menu:
Double Hearted cheese spread served with pita chips.
Rocky Road Pulled Pork Shoulder
Rocky Road Chicken Sliders
(served on your choice, flour tortilla, Hawaiian King slider bun, English Diner roll, Brochette Buns)
Both Sliders and Pulled pork served with Pops' Authentic and Famous, Beer B Que Sauce.
Two Hearted Coleslaw
Lemon Citrus Hef cupcakes
My daughters menu:
Cheeze dip (mine was creamy, hers was using shredded cheese) with pretzel chips (made by my 8 year old grandbaby)
Pear and Apple Salad with Vinagrette (made by my 10 year old grandbaby)
Beef Tacos with corn tortillas
Chicken Sliders
Stout brownie bites with salted caramel
I had a feeling I was up against some stiff competition when I pulled into the driveway and there was a sign made out of construction paper that spanned the width of the garage that said "Don't vote for Pops Vote for Jenica" It became crystal clear when I noticed a sign under the Lemonade and Punch dispensers that said "Don't vote for Pops" Then after we set up the serving table, placards were placed in front of each entry identifying the item, who made it and a graphic. I don't understand why the graphics on cards made for my entries ranged from :( to .
As people were helping themselves, the youngest granddaughter was working the crowd making sure they tried her contributions and flashing her big ole hazel eyes if someone grabbed a spoon from my contributions.
Well it was a close count and a spirited competition but Pops takes second place to the home court advantage.
Good times, I tell ya!
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.
Yesterday, I go to my daughters house (who will now be called Cooking Queen) to pick up tables, chairs and other assorted items to put on our cookoff.
I was greeted in the driveway by Cooking Queen and received a big hug and a funny tidbit. Before entering the house, I was told her youngest ( now known as Miss Mia) has shown a liking to my sauce. It seems, Pops' Authentic and Famous Beer B Que Sauce found its way into the upstairs fridge and she has been making frequent trips to put a sampling on her finger and licking it clean.
Upon entering the house, Miss Mias older sister asked if she could have a cupcake. Mom answer was : You have been eating them all day, I don't know why not.
I asked her if she thought they were good. Her eyes lit up and took a big bite with a nod of approval. I asked if I deserved the title of Cupcake King. She thought for a moment and not only approved but, with introspection gave an affermation I was in fact, the Cupcake King.
Funny for day after thoughts.

I could read your posts all day long Well Rounded Malto Marko, AKA The Cupcake King!
"...when Hibernian won the Scottish Cup final and that celebration, Sunshine on Leith? I don’t think there’s a better football celebration ever in the game.”
