  • LOL, Deb.

    Ya, it does.

    Kayrone, Springhill suites.

Is that another arm of Mariott or does that refer to a single property?

The reason I ask is because Mrs. Malto and I have stayed at the Springhill Suites by Mariott at Frankenmuth and it is our preferred place to stay in Frankenmuth.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

The summer I graduated a teacher took myself and two other friends on a west coast trip. We were gone for a month. He paid for everything. Three meals a day, hotels, gas, event tickets, etc. The only thing we had to pay for was a souvenir if we wanted one. Stopped at all the places Tony and Malto have mentioned including Little Bighorn battlefield, went into Seattle, visited Crator Lake in Oregon, and drove through the Redwood forest in Cali. We stayed in California for a week and a half with relatives of his. While there we took sorties into Mexico, Vegas, Phoenix, the OK Coral, and the spot where Colorado, Utah. Arizona, and New Mexico all come together and you can be in four states at the same time.

I'm probably missing a few stops but it was a sweet trip and all for free.

You sure? Because in my "vision", the Japanese government official definitely said "laddie". Maybe that same official was raised in Edinburgh and we kicked his ass oot when he was 22.

                  • Wow. I'm amazed that your parents let you go on a month long trip with a relative stranger. Different time and different place. Sounds like a great trip though.

                      Sounds excellent. What are sorties?

                      • A sortie is an excursion from a home base and back in the same day. In other words, we left Cali, went to Vegas for the day, and returned late in the evening. There was no layover.

--------------------------------He wasn't a stranger. He was well respected at the time. I was 18(legally) capable of making my own decisions. I was going with two friends. This is back in the 70's. Things are different now.

                        • I'm sure he was as respected as the local priest or football coach. Like I said, different time. When I was a kid I was Kicked out of the house to play in the neighborhood every day of the summer without any parental supervision. Doubt that happens now.

Yes. The locals call it Jackson but I too, knew it by Jackson Hole never having been there.

                            Yup.

In the summer, Mom was still working on her teaching degree while Dad worked. We were left alone from 8:30 AM until 4 PM. We were responsible for getting our own breakfast, doing the breakfast dishes, there was a lesson (homework) given to each of us that had to be completed as well as a household chore to accomplish, then we were expected to go outside and not come home till dinner. (Which was always at 5:30 sharp)

This happened for several years. The first year I was 9 and Mom had graduated and hired as a teacher and was home summers by the time I was 12.

                            That would not happen today.
