Unbeknownst to me, I left my camera bag in the rental car that I returned in my grief fog about a week ago. Yesterday I received a message through Linked In from the guy who rented the same vehicle after me. Somehow he got my name and tracked me down to return $1000 worth of camera equipment that I hadn't even realized I had lost. So I am meeting him later this afternoon to pick it up from him.

I am going to endorse the shit out of him on Linked In. :-)
    Nice!

Having lost my wallet a few times prior and never having it returned, I told him what I wanted was if he ever found something of value he make a concerted effort to return it to it's rightful owner in the condition he found it in.
I have stopped to help people on the road that have had fuel or tire problems and got them back on the road as well as some who have asked for money (at a gas station, or fast food joint) that forgot their money at home with the promise it will be repaid if I give them the info to send the money to.

In all instances I just say the way to repay me, is to help someone else in need when you come across them.

              • Kayrone........, make sure to take someone along with you to meet this guy for security. He may insist that you both hit the Travel Lodge to take some snaps with the high quality snapping equipment. A lot of weirdos over there!

I understand but many of us do not come into contact with Coasties.

.......so I am going to add to my response to help someone else in need and if you come across a Coastie, buy him/her a beer.

                    • You guys are adorable. Rest assured, I have more than a few street smarts. :-) I was planning on meeting him tonight under the I-70 overpass, but now you all made me a little nervous, so I'm going to meet him at his place of employment on Monday instead, which is a very public, highly visible place.

You took all the fun out of it.

I am guessing his place of employment does not have the rumbling of a semi traveling at 65 MPH and therefore lessening the thrill of getting your property back.

                          • Why didn't the rental car company find the camera equipment? Wouldn't they be required to check the car before renting it out to the next person?

                            • ^ Yes I thought the very same ^

If it was me who hired that car after Kayrone, and I found the bag,.... I'd instantly think, bomb, terror attack on Avis!

Seriously though, me and the wife, (or the wife and I.... forgot that shit) were in Kings Cross, London one year and we saw a small brown leather satchel bag with buckles etc on the ground beside a seat. The wife says 'oh look, a wee brown bag" and starts to walk to it, ..... I say,"Wait, stop...., BOMB, are you insane!"......., then while she is busy calling me a paranoid headcase, the guy returns and picks up his bag.

                              • Once, I found a rhinestone and leather purse in the back alley of a strip club where I use to do charity work and occasionally donate blood. I diligently looked through the pictures on the cell phone trying to find who to return it to. After a third and thorough sweep through the photos, I decided to take a look at the owner's drivers license instead. Long story short, I arranged a meeting under an overpass to return the purse. Gave back the credit cards, hygiene products, and purse. Kept a stick of glitter lip gloss and a wad of singles so I could buy a Coastie a beer the next day.
