Went and did the interview today. The interview took all of 1o minutes. It took me longer to shave than do the interview. The interviewer was this 22 y.o clean faced kid, who obviously wasn't used to potential candidates showing up in a suit and tie.

....Ahhhh, grasshopper. The age is not a factor, impressing the one that is making the decision is more of a factor. You would have impressed him more if you would have had the wife call you and produced a blackberry and not take the call by zapping it, you would have impressed him.

Very true Mark. I have always held the view that age does not always equal wisdom and have met some extremely bright, gifted and talented young people in my life. I gave the young man the same courtesy and respect I would have given to a older person. He is the recruiter and I am simply a poor schmo trying my best to land a job.

BTW, my phone did ring during the interview but I ignored it. It was on vibrate and he didn't hear it but I did get a giddy little smile on my face as it was ringing.

No problem. But if you're wanting a new suit made, I'd suggest you call ahead and let them know you're coming in for a measurement, then give them about a month to find enough cloth. (They may have to use an old space shuttle drag chute) :D

We had the opportunity to do a burial at sea last week for a retired Coastie. I read a quick obit and Tennyson's Crossing the Bar, the bugler played Taps and a family member spread the ashes. Overall it was a nice little ceremony

I almost forgot to mention. My job transformed from a contractor position to a civil service position. I've known for a couple of weeks it was going to happen, but I just began today. I ended up with about a $12K/yr raise for doing nothing extra really.

Also, I'm going to get a severance from my old corporation, and I'm selling back vacation days I had save up.

I've been really thankful.
