Loyola is no Goliath, they don't even practice on a football field. Most of the kids come from poor families and its a struggle to keep them going to school. I can't stand Loyola but Sharkbait is making this Hollywood story BS, I have to call him on it. I'm suprised Loyola got this far, they were much better last year but their road was much easier this year.

I am thinking Loyola is a Private School. Your hatred for Loyola doesn't make them less of a team. They were 13-0 this past season, Ishpeming was 12-1. Loyola breezed through the playoffs beating their last three opponents by a combined score of 136-13.... Gross Point Woods University Liggett (50-7), Britton Deerfield (32-0), and Flint Beecher (54-6). The combined record of those 3 was 26-10.
Ishpeming won their three games by a combined score of 68-19, beating Pewamo-Westphalia (8-7), Mancelona (32-0, and Lake City (28-12). The combined record of their opponents was 29-7.
What made this a David - Goliath matchup (billed thus by the Fox Sports anouncers, BTW) was the size of the Loyola vrs the size of Ishpeming. Their front line averaged 6"4" and 268 lbs. Their RB averaged 11 YPC, Rob Rubick pretty much said Ishpeming has no chance against these big guys from Loyola. Oh, yeah, Loyola drove across town to get to Ford Field, Ishpeming came 370 miles. Big difference.
here's a little read for you ...
I have the game DVR'd, let me know if you'd like to watch it.Last edited by Sharkbait; November 26, 2012, 12:34 PM."Don?t worry about a thing, every little thing is gonna be alright. - Bob Marley "

We play Loyola every year once and sometimes twice. I didn't see the game, I'm glad you guys won, but they are a private school with very, very poor kids who probably don't pay much in tuition. They are no Goliath. The three teams you listed they played in the playoffs were not great teams. That was about the easiest route they could get to the playoffs. There will never be an easier route to the championship in Division 7 from the South.
Generally, once they get out of our district, they run into a wing t team or some different type of veer option offense and they struggle. Last year they were much better and ran into a strong Hudson team.
Its not about my hatred of the team, it based on my knowledge of Loyola.

Loyola has a kid that is 6'7 290 lbs on the d-line and they ran right at him.. Ishpiming had one good size kid about 250 lbs but the rest were a buck eighty if lucky.. they only averaged 209 across the front.. the d line averaged 248 for loyola.. was still a very well played game by eachIf you keep shootin, you can turn any piece of meat into burger

There is another storyline behind this season for Ishpeming, having to cope with the loss of a son and fellow team mate .......
read it here ... http://www.usatodayhss.com/detroit/a...-2012311250273
This team was fighting for a purpose.
In addition to this, there is a kid on the team who petitioned the MHSAA to be able to play for the team, he was 19 years old, with Downs Syndrome. Very touching story that was featured in a Sports Illustrated contest, which indeed, won the first place prize. Coming from a city of 6700 people, that in itself is amazing. Watching him play and finally getting to successfully kick an extra point after missing five,... and the way he was accepted by this team, brought tears to my eyes. Here you go ... http://www.uppermichiganssource.com/...5#.ULQCeUT48oI
This team came to Detroit with a purpose, and accomplished just that on Saturday morning.
Hudson has always had a pretty strong Football program. Seems they had a run of 62 consecutive wins before they lost to , Oh yeah, ... Ishpeming, in the 1975 State Championship Game.

Loyola ..................... 13-0
Flint Beecher ............ 8-5
Britton-Deerfield ....... 10-2
Gross Point Woods ... 8-3
Loyola - 136, the other 3 - 13
Loyola scored at will and kept them from scoring. I am still not buying that they played a patsie schedule to get there. Go back and read Stee's post #7234. Hell, go onto any of the Detroit newspaper and read about the game. You'll see words like surprised, over matched, Loyola will be talk of the town, ..... 40-32 .... but wait, you are right. Loyola was a pushover for Ishpeming. What a bunch of rag-tag over achievers. Thanks for setting me straight. That was an easy route to the finals for Loyola. They won't ever get a path that easy. Getting Beecher was a great stroke of luck, how they beat Nouvel is beyond me. If you lose 54-6 in the semis to that Loyola team, you weren't that good. The thing is you keep on listing records like it means something. Liggett was not a good team. I know these teams, we've played them all over the years. You're not buying it, but you don't know the teams."Don?t worry about a thing, every little thing is gonna be alright. - Bob Marley "

This post makes no sense. Of course they will be better next year, when you start 7 sophmores, you aren't going to be as good as the more senior laden team from last year. Again, I know all these teams, you don't. Every year we get out the maps and scout the teams.
We played Loyola 4 times in two years, last year we we much better and couldn't come close to scoring on them. This year we were within a TD in both games in the third quarters. Its all about the matchups, that was as cake a route as they will ever get to the title game.
Loyola might be a better team next year with a mediocre record. They are getting moved up into higher division in the Catholic league. They are supposed to be out of the Intersectional division.
