last night I took my son to the performing arts "try on" as he will be a middle schooler in the fall. He walked in thinking that he wanted to play percussion, but was open minded enough to try out a bunch of different instruments. In the end, he walked out torn between the stand up bass and the tuba. LOL guys. I don't think jazz musicians have any trouble with the ladies, either.
We are trying to help him weigh the pros & cons of both, but it is totally his decision, and I will be happy with whichever way he goes ('course, either way, it looks like I'm going to have to buy a big ass SUV to be able to transport the little man). I was a band geek, so there is a part of me that hopes he goes that route, as marching band was a TON of fun. BUT...a stand up bass, how freaking cool would that be?? Not only could he play it for a lifetime if he gets into jazz, but he could pretty easily transition to electric if he wants to rock out with his bad self."I ain't the type to bitch, I ain't the type to cry, I will sit at your red light and wait for your shit to go by."Comment

My youngest is into the double bass! He is a music major and plays in his university orchestra and has had one gig with the local symphony orchestra.Comment
