  • The contractor we're using is pretty small and relatively new. The guy is passionate about what he does, and they're working hard to make a name for themselves. They do a lot of events with customers for whom they've built houses for in the past. For example, we've already been invited to go scuba diving and a garden show.

I know that's not a guarantee of quality, but they do seem to be pretty concerned with customer satisfaction.

DanO, I appreciate the concern. My dad was a general contractor back in Montana. He did custom cabinets after they moved to Michigan since he was by himself, but I have him to help me with any questions. Plus the place where the house is being built is only about 3 1/2 miles from me, so I can get over there to check up on things regularly.

Sucks about your experience, Marko. I think the company we're working with is pretty good. They are definitely taking a lot of time to make sure I'm happy with blueprints, materials, etc. so far.

      • Not sure where to post this best, but I thought I'd share some pictures of my day in London.

We got there by train nice and easy, I had a delivery of a banner I made to the guy who runs the UK and Ireland fan club. (The person who wrote the Freep article recently).

There were a few people there so we took a picture, hmm I recognise that guy in the middle!! (I'm second from the left BTW).

Zack had fun throwing the ball around, I'm sure a number of people there had no idea of who he was. They may be reminded of him when he appears on some TV shows as a guest over the coming weeks though! He demonstrated strong arm that launched the ball high in the air like a punt, only to come down into a crowd of unsuspecting people!

They even had a wooden ship

They organize a "Tailgate" which is open to all 75,000 ticket holders, they had a HOF exhibition and a small pitch with stand to watch various events, as well as other things. (No jambalaya though :( )
I took this after it had emptied

Lots of Bears fans were there, they've a good fanbase here due to their success in the 80's when Football first made an impact here. They even got a bears chant going in the staium at one point.

They showed bit of RedZone on the screen and there was a bit of appreciation when they showed Calvin's TD. I didn't know the full result until I got home though. I was hoping for a final drive and score.

        This was our view

First time behind the endzone, certainly a different view. We were in the wrong end really as mostof the action was at the other end, although we did get to see Fortes TD (With a great run, he is a quality player).

There was one fan who ran onto the pitch topless, which pissed me off a bit. It's interesting that the players just stood there and made no attempt to stop him. I think that they have been told not to get involved. My pissed off turned to a bit of envy though when he made a couple of sharp moves to evade capture by security, the lions could do with him!

Mr Siragusa was at our end too.

I was on the concourse just before the game when a guy came up to me with his hand outstretched. Took me a couple of moments shaking his hand until I realised that it was just because I was Lions fan! He is from Detroit serving over here (turns out it's at Croughton, which is just down the raod). He may have also been shaking my hand only because he liked my jacket and kept asking me how much! (I didn't sell it, it's the Beverly Hills Cop one. I got it from a work collegue about 15 years ago who had worked in a restaurant in Detroit).

Game went flat for a bit until the 4th quarter, lots of INT's though, oh and Roy Williams having a good game and TD

At this point I was going to make a joke about hooking up with the daughter of a Detroit Lions fan who was serving overseas, but thought better of it..

That would be great (As long as it was their away game obviously!) It will be a while before I can afford to visit Detroit.

                    • Here is a sign that the world we live in is changing, and it really made my day...

I was up in MI over the weekend to spend time with my mom (who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last week as I mentioned in the 'piss you off' thread) and also visited with my inlaws for a bit. My 66 year old, extremely closed-minded mother-in-law says to me "If there is any way you can get your mom some marijuana, you should, because it really helps."

                      WHOA!

This is my son showing off his master hide & seek skills.
