    • I always offer such service to the Groom at any family wedding. Matter o fact, i just did this as recently as last weekend. I was told thanks but he already had two other rides waiting but unnecessary in his case.

It was a nice wedding and their reception that was held in their own yard had the police show up 20mins in due to loud noise. Cops were cool after finding out it was a wedding reception and never returned for the rest of the night.

                • They broke ground on our future house today. First step is reinforcing the soil in case of earthquakes. That should be done this week and then they'll lay the foundation next week or the week after. The estimated finish date is the end of February.

                  • Congrat's LFIJ! I guess this means Japan is home for the long haul. How do they go about reinforcing the soil?

Thanks Bim, for better or worse it looks like I'm stuck here. Especially since houses generally depreciate in value here.

They're going to put concrete piers into the ground to about 6 meters depth. I think they're going to do about 60 or 70 of them.

Here are a few pictures I took when I stopped by there after work tonight.

We have a rice field right behind the house, and it sounds like there are zoning laws in place now that will prohibit changing the farmland into residential land. Good for us since that means I'll never have neighbors right next to me!

                        • Whoa! 60-70 concrete piers 6 meters deep? That's impressive. Nice location. I always think of Japan as being so crowded. People living on top of people. Not so. Your location looks spacious.

                          • Thanks Deb.

Tokyo is like that, Bim, but we live in Kumamoto which is a pretty rural part of Japan. The city we're on the edge of is about 700,000 people.
