  • Well, I'm going to be gone for 11 days. My wife and I are taking the Harley out and heading toward Montana to see what we can see.

Not making the Sturgis run, just taking a lot of back roads, stopping at places for a couple of days and just seeing what we will see.

Going along with 3 other couples...should be a tone of fun.

I don't care what anybody says...that makes my day!

    • Don't believe it was an SR-71 that was shot down by the Russians.

There isn't (I don't belive) any record of an SR-71 being shot down. They've had some crashes, but were never shot down.

        • They shot a U-2 down over Cuba also.

          • Ground (Edit: Surface) to air missiles (SAMs) couldn't touch the SR-71. Too high AND too fast. The U-2 is slow. The Soviets had to produce the MiG25 Foxbat specifically to intercept the SR-71 because of the high speed and altitudes involved. Their normal alert fighter engines couldn't breath that high up.

They may have replaced it by now, but the SR-71 that was in the Mobile museum next to the US Alabama was destroyed by Katrina along with just about everything else.

            • We have the F-15 and F-22 taking off out of Tyndall on a regular basis. Tyndall holds the school house for young-uns just before they go into the real world.

              F-22 is louder.

Really? Wow, didn't know that. Really enjoyed the museum.

                      • I got a couple more pictures from the air show last week. This is an F18 and was by far the most impressive plane in the show. The pictures were taken from our deck so they flew by at about 100' or so above the water

                          • right stuff CVGT...Yeah the Hornet is a monster...That vertical climb to 30 thousand is unbelievable

                            • none of the "legacy" aircraft can vertically climb anymore, they've just grown too heavy with all the new capability. It's refreshing to see a F-22 do a climb. Back in the 90s I was doing stall testing on the F-22, it was really cool to be literally falling out of the sky, regain lift and aero control and then climb straight up.

                              • Heh, heh. As a licensed pilot, I can relate to what you are saying but since I had to pay for every minute of airtime, I can't say that stalls were what I wanted to do first.

BTW, I freaked my older brother out by taking him on a flight and doing a stall. He almost shit his pants and swore he would never fly again.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.
