There has been a lot of back and forth about how quickly our kids grow up. I'd like to share with you something I did for my kids. Ever since my oldest turned six, I hid a cassette recorder with mic attached near the Christmas tree each year. In later years when Video recorders were introduced, I also hid the camera and recorded the unwrapping of presents. When the youngest turned 21 I presented all three of them with an audio recording of a different year. I also showed them the videos. I can tell you, that while they were mildly interested in the video, it was the audio recording that enthralled each and every one of them. The audio gave them the ability to recall the events in their own way, the video was, well, just a family video.
If I could ever pass along any advice to new parents, it would be to audio record special events to give to them when they have matured. From my experience, audio captivates and thrills the listeners as they recall those moments the way they choose to remember them. This is not to say forget video, it is but to suggest you not forget audio.

That is cool, Bill. What a great gift. One of the problems that we are experiencing is the rapid changes in technology as our children grow up. VHS, 8MM, digital, etc. It is hard to keep up and have a format that we can pass down. It will take some work to get it all together on what ever the format is when the kids are grown.I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

Thanks all , you know how much that means to me.
Happy to report that we had a great trip to the U.P., we did a Karaoke show Friday night at Van Riper and had over 100 people there. On Saturday, I played a two hour set and Channel Six from Marquette to showed up and taped while I was playing.
Also, got a lead on a possible gig in Iron Mountain.

moi aussi.
I am a music lover, and make a point to see as much live music as I can (which isn't often now that I'm a mama). I have a very short list of must see performers that I haven't gotten to yet and John Prine is definitely on that list. I always keep an eye on his tour schedule, but he never comes anywhere near me. Until now! WOOT!"I ain't the type to bitch, I ain't the type to cry, I will sit at your red light and wait for your shit to go by."
