Vacation was great. Everyone had a great time. Thanks for asking.
We went fishing Friday morning and we landed 11. My older brother had two on which he lost(not his fault) but he ended up with two. His son caught 4 and Zach caught 3. Zach wanted to give up on the rod his last fish and I felt for him but I wanted him to land it all by himself. He did and I'm very proud. Those fish wear your right arm out. The lake was a little rough and it adds tremendously to the act of landing a Salmon. It's bad enough just trying to fight those big guys but having to fight the boat makes it an extremely precarious situation. We landed about 4 or 5 in the 20 lb range and a few in the 20lb range. The others were 10lb or below. I did manage to land the biggest fish again and my arm paid the price. My first one(3rd fish) was the biggest at the time, by quite a bit, but Zach's next fish beat mine. I couldn't have been happier. Unfortunately I caught a little bigger one later. My brother did lose one that was putting on a good fight and may have beat us all. I was bummed when he lost that fish. We actually had more time to fish but the kids were ready to pack in(and so was dad). It was rough to be fishing Salmon. I guess I don't have sea legs. I don't have a problem with rough seas in general or when fishing for smaller fish but when you're trying to concentrate on a Salmon and doing the proper things to land him, having to try and balance yourself both side and front is very challenging to say the least.
Yes someone drowned while we were there. My brother asked the group of campers across from us, when they returned from an apparent fishing trip, how the fishing was. The guy said they didn't get much fishing in as someone had drowned and the police asked if he could help with the search by dragging his anchor. He complied. He was visibly upset about the whole ordeal. We heard different reasons for the drowning, none of which were true but you can read about the incident here http://www.ludingtondailynews.com/ne...story_id=41018 but I'm sure you've already read that.

DanO, wow sounds like quite a fishing outing! Sorry the waters were a bit rougher, but sure sounds like the fishing was terrific!!! I'm glad you had a good time.
Yep, that's the article I read. That dropoff is so obvious, you can easily tell it gets wayyy deep there. Dunno why a non-swimmer would risk it.#birdsarentreal

----------------------------I've always wondered that. Apparently he was unaware but if he was why wasn't he more apprehensive.
We walked the top of those Dunes but didn't head to the beach. Mostly because dad didn't want to hike his fat ass up again. We(I) had a full day at that point.

Getting ready to take command of the Coast Guard Cutter Mako. Change of Command is in about 45 minutes. I'll try to post some pictures later...I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on
