Driving through the night to make it home safely (to So Cal) from LAKE TAHOE at 2:30am while trailing my older parents the whole way made my day from the wee hours on today.

Whewww am I road weary right now.
That is a long one. I-5 at anytime sucks. Especially if you have to stop at Modesto for eats. Give the parents some credit though, they had you following them the whole way and didn't try to ditch you.
I give them a lot of credit and told them so when we called each other around 2:15am when our freeways were about to split near home. I told them that I appreciated their pushing through that long drive and so late for us to get our kid home.

They would do anything for their only grandchild.
Me, not so much.
Somehow I believe you. Thank goodness for the grandchild or Mom and Dad would have been over on Hwy 1 checking out the Hearst Castle or Big Sur.
Its where they were trying to lead us (down the 101) but we did the entire Hwy 1 stretch from WA to So Cal this time last year.
They were NOT taking us back that way again.
Good thing that we were together because THEY had their SUV unexpectedly stall and an engine light go on 150 miles north of Bakersfield while we were getting off the 5 to gas up (near some GILROY Hwy exit).
OMG, the 101 from San Jose to LA. I once had a girl from Paso Robles ask me for a ride to San Fran. Glad you were paying attenton, Gilroy is a distance from I-5.
Congrats SLF! I will be there in a couple weeks celebrating my hubby's 40th bday. Feel free to send recommendations my way! :-) we've never been there before.
