  • I'm rooting for Canada and Sweden. I really don't care if the U.S. wins any medals.

    • GO USA!

Swedes next just cause we got so many winger Swedes.

Hell we got a Swede NBA player now too.

I never root for the Canadians or Russians. They make for much better adversaries. Canada by just being so damn good and Russia is well Russia (see Rocky IV).

      • In the olympics thread I saw one or two Swede picks. I just don't know the swedish team that well.
I picked Russia, Canada and U.S. to medal, with Russia meeting Canada for the gold.
Canada is most balanced. Russia is most offensively explosive. Give the Best goaltending to U.S.
Babcock is already surpising me, starting Luongo in the first game and Iginla has been slotted on the fourth line.

          • Steve Yzerman has never gotten the respect he deserves as one of the best players and the best caption IMO of all time. Always overshadowed by Mario and Wayne through his great career.

A win by Canada would go down in history along with Red Wing great Stevie Y as their country's hero. On the flip side he would be the goat if Canada wins the Silver. This is so much bigger than when John Thomson and the USA lost in basketball. This is their sport like football (and how baseball used to be) is to the US, and it would by fantastic to see Steve Yzerman get the credit. Any sports fan in Detroit would be happy for him.

            • So then, Wings fan, little late for an invite to be with those that will be getting together tonight but are you interested in getting together when some locals that get together to talk Detroit sports?
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

              • The Wings seem to be playing well for their homelands. Hopefully it spills over when they return to the Winged Wheel.
                F#*K OHIO!!!

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

                  • Anyone else hear the rumors abou Hudler maybe getting out of his contract and returning for the playoffs? I read something about it on (gulp) mlive. Man that would be great. Flippula, Franzen and Huds on that second line. I know its a real long shot but we could use him.

                        • Big game tonight!

The USA are 2-10 with three ties all-time against Canada, and have posted five losses and one draw since a 2-1 win in the 1960 Squaw Valley Games.

Since NHL players have been allowed to participate starting in 1998, the U.S. has been outscored 9-3 in two losses.

“Come the Canada game, we’ve got to play playoff-type hockey,” Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Malone said. “It’s not rocket science.” These teams last met in the 2002 gold-medal game in Salt Lake City, where Joe Sakic and Jarome Iginla each scored twice to propel Canada to a 5-2 victory

                              • Ryan Miller has been a beast so far this game. Canada has been throwing everything and the kitchen sink at him.
