WTF ???

The Penguins frustration came to a head late in the game as Maxime Talbot speared Osgood in the chest following a save, Henrik Zetterberg came to the aid of his netminder and ended up getting into a fight with Evgeni Malkin. Malkin was given an instigator penalty for the incident, but the NHL has rescinded the automatic suspension and he will be available for Game 3.

I didn't think that deserved an instigator penalty, but regardless you knew Bettman wouldn't let him be suspended. I thought Satan was pushing the envelope with a 3rd man in ejection and suspension.

Gotta agree with Froot here. That wasn't instigator worthy. Talbot's little poke check well after the whistle was the closest to that of anything in that final scrum.

It's not really a question of whether an instigator penalty should have been issued. One was, and the rule book says it's an automatic one game suspension. Changing the rule book mid-stream is the problem. I can't imagine anyone actually expected Malkin to get the suspension anyway.

The league has always reserved the right to waive a suspension if they deem the officials made the wrong call on the ice. In this case, I think it's the right move.

Perhaps the league should rewrite this rule in the off-season to avoid this type of dilemma.

This was a case of the penalty being excessive, so they waived the suspension. This is only a big deal because the name "Malkin" is attached to the penalty.

There is no way in hell the league is gonna suspend the star players on either team. Short of them using their stick like a baseball bat and going postal they are playing.

It's all good, rather the Wings beat the Pens at full strength than have them using some lame-ass excuse all next season as the reason they got beat.

Disagree on the instigator call. Malkin came around the net and through someone else standing there to facewash Zetterburg. If that is not instigating, there is no instigating.

Wings looked much better in the second and third. It was good to see the pressure they put in the Offensive zone.
