  • You can always say "if only" but if only Datsyuk's shot had gone under the crossbar instead of hitting it, Wings win. I couldn't believe the penalties in OT. The two goaltender interference calls were crap, and the interference or hooking call on the Penguins was pretty cheap too. If we'd won on that it would have been tainted a bit. Obviously, Hudler had to go after he drew blood. I always wonder what the hell guys are thinking when they do something like that.

    • I'm sure glad the NBC announcers kept repeating every 5 minutes during the OTs that the next goal wins. Thought maybe they had changed the rules for the playoffs.

      • They were trying to "heighten the drama." There's nothing wrong with announcing for dramatic impact. Hopefully, NBC had a lot of new viewers who don't watch much hockey.

        • I know that they are trying to market stars, but I got just a bit tired of replays of Crosby doing nothing when there was good action that could have been replayed instead.

I got the impression that the announcers are broadcasting with a bit of a Pittsburgh slant. Am I correct or is it just my Detroit bias showing through?

          • I didn't notice it; in fact, I remember thinking during the overtimes how much more pleasant it is listening to these NBC guys than some of the utter morons they've got doing baseball and football these days.

Uhhh, no. The announcing team has to have something to talk about with both teams. Wings are the Nemisis of Bettman because they fight him with all of his proposals that are supposed to be good for the league (despite the fact he gets 1MM from each team to preside over the league but he still refuses to understand the game). The management team on the Wings is unparalleled in the league. That is a threat to an idiot that does not understand the game but has the schmooze to talk himself into the ownership majority trust. Game officals and Announcers are retained by the league and will do what they are mandated.

This begs a bigger question; Who is right? The Commish because I said so and have the power to decree it, or the followers of the sport?

......or restated; Who is the bigger embarrassment? The guy that everyone knows because of TV exposure or the guy that tells you to kiss my ass because you have no input to what I am doing?

Shit. Why do these questions keep coming back to political ones????
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

                      • Bettman didn't want the Wings to win the Cup at home because he would have been booed mercilessly in Detroit. It would have been an ugly scene. That's an observation not an attack on the officiating.

                        GO LIONS "08" !!!!!!!!

                        • I thought that the announcers were definitely slanted toward Pitt almost to the point that I felt that they were nearly cheering for them. I don't see it as a conspiracy, though. I think it had more to do with the desire to see more hockey and the fact that I think the Wings get the "Yankee hate" from most of the hockey fans that I meet. I also see building stars as crucial to Hockey, hence the Crosby love. The announcers' orgasmic reactions every time Crosby touched the puck was a bit much, but I understand that they want him to be the story so badly... I am not a hockey expert by any means, but isolating Crosby and watching him skate to get into position seems like a waste of time. I didn't see it as anything special. Just a player moving to try to get into position. Don't they all do that...?

                          • In my mind, only the bald Pierre dude was giving props to the Wings on a consistent basis. Everyone else was licking Crosby's nuts up and down the ice.

                            • Its too bad that they gave up that goal with 34 seconds remaining because the prior 19 minutes of that period were fantastic.....I dont know if someone missed an assignment or what happened on that goal but they shouldnt have been able to score from point blank with no one on him.....They had a 6th man but you still have to account for the guys in front of the goalie.....It was hard to tell if Lidstrom was supposed to be closer to him or if the center was late getting to him but he was wide open to poke away and put it in.......

                              • Ed Olczyk was the coach of the Penguins just a couple years back, he got fired early in his second season but some of the players on the team now he coached, so I can see where he'd have some bias towards them.
