Top I was half joking with that comment but really when you look deeper at it, it's probably the smarter play. The NHL FA is a joke these days. Players don't hit the open market anymore. Stamkos this year will be one of the few really good players to hit in recent years.

Keeping those picks are becoming more and more valuable. Now with that said Philly unloaded Prongers contract a few years ago for a 3rd or 4th rounder. I'd do that in a heartbeat unless they think Stamkos would really come to the D. Then I'd give up whatever they wanted.

Well FA last year and going into this off season is really weak. Like this last FA period in the NFL. But it's still less of these draft picks could be all stars but just the lack of value in FA, just like some drafts being deeper. If you don't think you can bring in the type of players you want with that extra money then it makes sense to eat it and save the picks. Better then feeling desperate and signing a 5 year contract to player you feel luke warm about.

I heard people on the radio saying the guy running the Islanders would be a better fit to bring to Detroit than Yzerman. Someone also suggested Nill.

In all honesty, I wouldn't lose sleep over a Holland being replaced (maybe give him the Devallano treatment and make him a "consultant") but I just don't see them making a move this close to moving into the new stadium. I have a feeling there would be public outcry against it and they would fear a backlash if the team faltered right away. They probably are content with keeping the status quo.

The Wings will never make that move because of pride and past accomplishments. They'll only make it when its too late.

Wow, I did not expect the Wings' season to end because of a mistake by Mrazek.

But, they were on borrowed time. You can't miss that many breakaways and not capitalize on that many power plays and expect to win a series. They blew another five on three. They were better short-handed than they were with a two man advantage.

Let's see what play it safe Holland does now. If he get anything for Nyquist or Tatar he really needs to. I'd love to add Stamkos but why the hell would he want to come to a team that just got bounced from his current squad.

Wings are in a terrible spot. Cap wise and player wise. Could be some lean years comming.
