OMG!
Erickson is being paired with DeKyser and being considered the top defensive line?
We are in trouble!
For now, the Wings have six defensemen available, and putting Ericsson with DeKeyser enables Blashill to use those two as the top shutdown pair.
“We are trying to find the right chemistry among those pairings, and that kind of gives them a real focus,” Blashill said. “They are two big guys. Johnny is a big, strong guy, they both skate pretty well, and we think they can defend against a lot of teams’ best players.”I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

What teams would you consider to be the Wings' biggest rivals these days? I know it's not the Avs anymore (and they're awful), and while I grew up hating the Hawks, they're in a different conference now.
I ask because I'm getting my brother and sister in-law tix to Wings game, and I'm wondering what the best games are these days. Montreal, Boston or Rangers?

When I started following the Wings Rogie Vachon was the goalie and the Canadiens were knocking them out of the playoffs, when the Wings got in. The Leafs were always a bit of a rival, and it makes sense both geographically and Babcockally, but never like the Blackhawks that I can remember.
In the 80's, I remember the Leafs and the Wings in playoffs, one team was up 3-0 and lost the series. Why do I think we were on the short end of that stick?
I guess I'll look at it from the other direction and just avoid a team that sucks. Except the Leafs.

I believe, in the 80s, the Leafs were up 3-1 on the Wings when the Leafs were coached by John Brophy and the Wings came back and won. Later, in the 90s, when the Wings were coached by Bryan Murray, they had a 2-0 lead and lost the series.
