also very true. Though he'd probably get paid a ton for doing both jobs.

Doing those jobs in Toronto is even tougher. For whatever reason a lot of highly successful hockey men came in to clean up the mess there and they all failed. The media there turns on those guys quickly. Grab the bucket of popcorn to see how he interacts with them as a Leaf coach. Its easier to be the Golden Boy when you get to helm a stacked Canadian team.

That's a good comparison, I'm surprised they came in as the late entry. I was under the impression Shanahan wasn't a fan of his. I'm also surprised that the Wings upped their offer to 4 million per year if Mark is correct. Letting him go on this tour was a way of letting him go, they might be thankful for the Leafs rescuing them from retaining him.

Apparently there is something that is an object.
I am guessing the Wings let him test the waters to find out what the true value of a Coach is given the Salary Cap.
Money, money, money. Blah, blah, blah.I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

Babcock is a very good coach. However, 50 Million/8 years is a ton of money and it might not be the amount of money but rather the length of years that Babcock gets that was a major factor.
Babcock is beloved in Canada, and having a chance to turn around the Leafs and make them into a consistent contender then he could lay claim to being the best coach ever in NHL history (not saying he is but that the argument could be made).
I think the younger players are going to get a bit more chance now with the Wings. Holland is going to have more freedom and flexibility just because Babcock's presence is going to be gone now.2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

50 Mil for 8 years. I heard 10 or 11.
So, you are saying Babcock is the reason Cleary and the guys Jaadam did not like on the team were Babcocks choice?
Not a good scenario if he is going to take a ton of money to rely on players that produce nothing for their contract.

Money, money, money. Blah, blah, blah. The Maple Leafs have won the sweepstakes for the offseason's biggest coaching prize, reaching terms with Mike Babcock.
snipped: Babcock cashed in on his status as the most coveted hire in hockey. According to multiple reports, he received an eight-year deal that is worth a whopping $50 million. That contract would make Babcock the highest-paid coach in the NHL.2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J.
