Hossa was always a one year deal. Everyone knew that at the time, during the finals there was talk that it was possible that he could sign an extension but it was pure wishful thinking. They had a spare 6 million for the 2009 season that they weren't going to have in the subsequent seasons. Unless he was willing to take a lower deal, it wasn't happening.
The Wings need a Kane or Toews, thats what they need. Worrying about retaining Bowman or getting him back forgets the main point. And generally you get these guys by bottomong out.
