How the F did we sign him to such a reasonable contract? Wow, great deal. I really shifted to hoping for Franson but ill take this any day of the week. He won't make us forget about Lids but he'll damn sure make us better.
Nice contract Holland
F#*K OHIO!!!

Wings also struck a deal with Brad Richards for 1 year @ 3 mil. Another nice vet at a reasonable deal. I'm actually impressed with Holland right now.
Richards is a nice insurance policy for Dats and could bring more leadership for the playoffs.

Talk is FA's didn't want to sign here because they didn't want too play for Babcock. The Green signing sure makes that look the case considering we couldn't sign any FA's of note for several years under Babcock.
Brad Galli @BradGalli [ame="https://twitter.com/BradGalli/status/616603550504894464"]3m3 minutes ago[/ame] Ken Holland said he's been thinking about Red Wings retiring Sergei Fedorov's number. Has to have conversation with Ilitches.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.
Sounds like Holland was also looking at Kevin Shattenkirk from St. Louis. I know we just signed Green, but Shattenkirk would be an awesome addition to the defense. We'd be pretty stacked.
Sounds like St. Louis is in need of a top tie center and a sniping winger.
I say offer:
Helm, Pulkkinen, and Kindl (Or Ericsson) + a 2016 4th round pick
(Helm is an UFA next year and we have Larkin, Holmstrom, and Athanasiou in the wait. Athanasiou to me is a speedy Helm clone with better hands but a little less defensive reliability. But that can be taught.)
Id do that in a heartbeat but the Blues damn sure wouldnt. They'd want a 1st rounder and prob Mantha.

It's pretty telling that free agents have shut us out for years but as soon as Babcock leaves we sign 2 good ones at very reasonable rates

I might be the minority here but I don't think they should retire Federovs number. He was a red wing great but he ditched us for California dreaming. Let one of his other teams retire his number. He could have been even more special in his later years with us.
