I'm watching a team that can roll out line after line of quality forwards. We need a power forward but we have skill. Defense we do not.

    Z
    Dats
    Nyquist
    Tatar
    Sheehan
    Glendening
    Jurco
    Pulkenun
    Abdlkader
    Helm
    Ferraro

I wouldn't trade upcoming skilled youth thats made their way from GR for aging vets at forward who are making one last cash grab before theyre over the hill. We already lost a second rounder for Erik Cole.
    F#*K OHIO!!!

    • You saw very small forwards that had trouble in the playoffs. You're the only soul in North America that doesn't identify a power forward as a big need.

      • Bowman must have breathed on Quenneville's forehead and given him the gift.

I think Bowman makes more trips to the bathroom after midnight than he does make helpful suggestions to the Blackhawks.

Quenneville was always considered a good coach but he always had trouble advancing in the playoffs because he was running into the powerhouse Wings. Once the Wings came down to earth and the Blackhawks' high draft picks started to mature, they started winning Cups. Amazing...

Bowman will pretty much always be considered the greatest coach off all time but let's not forget that when he took over in Montreal and Pittsburgh, those teams had won Cups before he got there. It's not like he flipped a switch and they went from losers to winners. They were extremely talented teams. You could argue that his best coaching job was in Detroit where they had minimal success before he got here. But again, they were a very talented team with the highest payroll. That's less genius and more opportunist.

        • The Wings definitely need a power forward and the only way to get one will be to trade some of the youth for one. You have to give up something to get something. I'm not saying go after an over the hill player but there should be a veteran available that can fit the bill. The Wings were pushed around the last two playoffs and experienced first round exits. It's okay to give up on some of the prospects. That's how the Wings became a powerhouse in the 90s.

I disagree on both counts Hellen Keller. I think our forwards outplayed the Lightening for much of the series but without a dependable defense they had to pick up the slack with the back check. Also calling our forwards "very small" is a bit of a reach. All of the following are players 6' and taller. You're acting like our team is full of guys ala Martin St. Louis.

Abdelkader, Andersson, Sheahan, Ferraro, Helm, Jurco, Miller, Zetterberg

While I don't think our team is as small as stated I do see the need for a talented power forward. I've been saying for weeks the Wings would be retarded to give up on the 6'5 / 220 frame in Mantha. What I wouldn't do is trade for an aging / pricey power forward prior to getting that D upgraded. I'd rather trade talented "smallish" forwards (Nyquist, Tatar, Pulkenun) for upgrades on that defense if they do it at all. We're not a power forward away from winning the Cup.

            • Not a power forward away from the cup is true.
But a power forward like Backes who is an extremely good 2-way player wouldn't hurt the defense OR the offense either.

I still like Byfuglien though. I think he is the best option and probably the most reasonable in trade cost. Glad to hear that Detroit isn't interested in Phaneuf anymore. Would have been nice, but would have cost a lot to get him.

              • I stand corrected by Jad. They have Landon Ferraro, I apologize for the oversight.

I never said Ferraro was a beast. Just pointing out that our squad isn't as small as your previous post suggested. I actually think Holland and Co have done a great job of transitioning from drafting smaller players in previous years and adding size in the last several drafts.

Even with the smaller players people are forgetting these are young guys that haven't completely filled out yet. The majority will add muscle and be stronger as their careers progress.

                    • If I'm not mistaken Scotty's first gig as an NHL coach came with the first ever NHL expansion. He took on the job in St Louis...and this expansion team went on to meet Montreal in the Stanley cup finals that year. These players were castoffs from other teams....so yes Scotty is a wizard.

                            • Maybe a different approach from the Bench will get better results from the roster.

......and for anyone to suggest that Scotty was not the wild card that allows for three cups in 6 years is.........well, not understanding how mentoring can have positive effects on talented people that seem to have hit their ceiling.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.
