  • Huge offseason. Just a guess, but I think Babcock is gone and I expect quite a bit of roster turnover. We have a lot of youth, but we need to get back to the days of bringing in top level talent. That can happen via FA or trade, but we need some new blood here.

    • I agree with that with one caveat. When you expect a lot of turnover and moves, the Wings have traditionally stood more pat than the fans would like.

        • ANA ran HILLER early in the 2nd (3-0) en route to a 6-1 win. Calgary is Anaheim’s beyotch at home. They haven't won in ANA since 2006 (20 games)

              Yes, seriously.

I see a Tampa Bay team that had lots of holes become a serious Conference contender while a Red Wing team that was a perennial Conference contender become a team with a lot of holes and a perennial quick exit from the playoffs.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

              • I dont know if I'd take yzerman over holland but he has certainly done a nice job in Tampa.

                • I think Holland is trying to manage a transition that has taken about three years longer than anyone expected... whether it is because the veterans have clung to their spots longer than anticipated or the young blood hasn't met the requirements Holland demands as quickly as he had hoped (or a combination of both), the Wings have been in this holding pattern, and Holland has been reluctant to commit to any team-shaking moves until it's all sussed itself out.

                  • That's the issue between Holland and Babcock. I don't think Babcock thinks much of the young guys, he wants a veteran talent infusion. And he doesn't shy away from that opinion.

                    • He did think enough to play Mrazek over Howard though so he has to be given credit for that.....Most coaches would have went with the battle tested goalie for the playoffs.

                      • 24 straight years in the playoffs, many of which ended up with a Stanley Cup championship trophy, AND maintaining all this with no high draft picks and still able to rebuild on the fly, with two great prospect forwards who'll be up in a couple years, and now salary cap space.

I'll take all this any period in the epoch of history. (Someday, I'll look back at this sentence and discern if my grammar and word choices worked.)
