Shit, remember that Green By Packer team with a future all star coaching cast? Mike Holmgren, Sherman Lewis, Steve Mariucci, Andy Reid, Jon Gruden, Fritz Shurmur, Dick Jauron, Ray Rhodes.
Joe McDonnell, director of amateur scouting, and Mark Leach, amateur scout, will leave the Red Wings to join Nill in Dallas.
Think about it,
Jacques Demers - Went on to win Cup with Montreal (think is retired)
Bryan Murray - GM Ottawa
Scotty Bowman - Senior Advisor Chigago
Jim Nill - GM Dallas
Paul MacLean - HC Ottawa Senators
Steve Yzerman - GM Tamps Bay
Dave Lewis (Bust) - Asstant Coach Carolina Hurricanes
Todd McLellan - HC San Jose Sharks
Brendan Shanahan (Bust) - National Hockey League's Vice President of Hockey and Business Development and Director of Player Safety. In other words Gary Bettman 'bitch'. (Total embarrassment he ever had anything to do with the Wings).
3 GMs 2 HCs and Bowman - off the top of my head that's 6 current teams with x Red Wings leading them.
Brad McCrimmon too (as a coach, not in the NHL. And of course he died with his team)
Barry Smith
Barry Smith, (born 21 August 1952 in Buffalo, New York) is an American ice hockey coach. He began his coaching career in 1975 with Elmira College In 1986, Smith began a long career as an assistant and associate coach in the NHL, working with the Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Phoenix Coyotes, Brunflo IK, and Vancouver Canucks, winning five Stanley Cups along the way.[1] Smith also coached five games for the Red Wings in 1998 after head coach Scotty Bowman was unable to start the season behind the bench due to knee surgery. In 2008, he became head coach of SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League. After being a pro scout for the Chicago Blackhawks,[2] he was the head coach of HC Lugano in Switzerland NLA. He is presently the Blackhawks' Director of Player Development.[3]
Cleary has drawn interest from other teams, including Anaheim, but wants to be a Red Wing he will be back. Likely on a three-year contract somewhere between $2.5 to $3 million per season. Im OK with that, 2- years would be better , meh - good to have a gritty loyal forward, especially when injury's come along.
The Red Wings are not happy with Damien Brunner. Thought they gave him a fair 3 year deal, but he's leaving the Wings. The Red Wings have essentially cut ties, look for him possibly tomorrow to be with another team.
Rumors Tootoo will be gone (no room for him, still I would keep) And Sammy and Burt are on the team still. Samuelsson - what a terrible signing, Holland would like to dump him but would have no takers. Has a year left on contract.
Actually the Hockey Hall Of Fame does have every player listed by team on their website. Thing is, it lists ALL of a player's teams. So the Detroit Vipers are listed as having a member (Gordie Howe) as is Detroit Compuware (Lafontaine).
