    • Wings have to come out hard and keep skating hard.

Too often this year they sat back and thought the other side was afraid of them because they are the Wings (or, the youths do not realize every second of ice time they get, they are expected to do their job and then a bit more).

There has been no consistency and they can not afford to take a night off.

Edit: This is nothing new. Winning the Presidents Cup then getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs suggest this has been happening for a while.

Now they are the underdogs and with young players (read: they do have a problem with giving a younger players a chance to prove themself unless injury dictates it).

      Speaking about underdogs.

...........I am guessing they are bird dogs.

Yet Urlacher was considered a huge leader in the locker room. Why by working through injury by always driving to best everyone else in the weight room.

Commenting that Yzerman was might not be some super motivator, by his own words and did it the same way as most leaders, by pushing to be the best and letting the coach use him as an example on how to approach the game.

I was watching a part on SB winning QB's that Brady and Montana were on. Brady commented that Bilichek would use a Brady a screwup from the previous practice to open the next days film review. That makes Brady a leader. Do you know why because everyone knows Brady's capabilities, his drive, and the work he puts into practice. If BB can yelled at for that, then what does that mean for everyone else. Brady is a leader by setting a example both for craftsmanship and second for allowing BB to set the bar above him and taking it like a man. It's why coaches in Basketball have such a hard time.

So it's not bashing Yzerman to say that his "leadership" was overrated in the sense of dramatic speaches or instilling drive in the young ones. He lead by being trying to be the best and by doing so always keeping the bar for those less self motivated always out of reach. For every Ray Lewis there are 100 fantastic leaders that don't have to say a word, and honestly its better that way because in the end I would rather the coach being the motivator and not a team easily following someone that could turn on a dime and decide they don't like the Team/coach/city one day.
Fair enough. I'm not going to argue anymore. Let's leave it as Yzerman is the overrated one and Lidstrom was great leader that deserves to be called The Captain, not Yzerman.

              You are not thinking logically.

No one said Yzerman was overrated,

You are the one saying Lidstrom was.

One is called The Captain when they earn the position. It is not a term that is only bestowed upon the best player ever in the Franchise.

Mr. Hockey was a Johnny come lately to wearing the C.

I am not sure you understand the hierarchy of sports.

                • Actually, I started this whole debate by objecting to Captain Z getting called the title with full cap honorific. Any attempt to rationally debate this viewpoint evaporated when Blue waded in and the discussion veered in to Bizarro land.

Here's a relevant section from Wiki
Prior to the 1986–87 season at the age of 21, Yzerman was named captain of the Red Wings and continuously served for the next two decades (dressing as captain for over 1300 games), retiring as the longest-serving captain of any team in North American major league sports history. Once voted to be the most popular athlete in Detroit sports history, locals often simply refer to Yzerman as "The Captain."

That is just as offensive. Yzerman was fantastic and deserved to be called "The Captain" because well he was "The Captain". I know what you are trying to say. To you Yzerman and his years as the captain of the team makes it seem like referring to the captain as "The Captain" meant only Yzerman. Like a nickname meant only for him. But it wasn't, its a title for whomever has it and Lidstrom leading the defense for a decade and a half and leading the team as C for another ~6 years is just as deserving. Even Zetterburg who probably won't win a cup while being the C. Is both deserving of the C and just as deserving of the title "the captain". Zets put in the years and performance. He isn't a Yzerman but not being Yzerman is no reason to discredit someone.

If people didn't want the title passed on then they should have retired the the process of C and gave them something like an L or HNIC patch.

She is trying the sarcastic backpedal out of a debate that pansies do all the time. Like saying "no your right, I am wrong, the government completely faked the moon landing" in a debate about what really happened with pentagon and the other plane that landed the grass. Over heard that conversation and laughed my ass off.

.....and just what I said. He will always be referred to "The Captain" by the locals but that is not a term that is exclusive to him.

There is a current Captain and he can also be addressed as The Captain. Because he is!

                          • To bad you can't italize speech because what CB is getting bent out of shape about is the difference in saying Zetterburg is "The Captain" and Yzerman is "The Captain".

If we want to take this further, and really, I see no reason to do so, "The Captain" is both a nick name and a position.

Some are arguing the nickname, I am arguing the position.

                              Hank is The Captain.

Stevie was, and always will be to those who know Wings history (which is now a nick name).

I was getting on Tonys crank because he is a technicality guy and I was calling him out on it in a friendly way.
