  • Abdelkader is 6'1"
    Lydman is 6'1"

You don't leave the ice if the intent is shoulder to shoulder because he's already shoulder to shoulder - you just keep your legs moving and drive through the stationary target - damage done.

Jordan Tootoo (5'9"), he might want to get lower and try to launch his target in the air instead with a hip check.

    • He also did it right in front of the ref, like within arms reach. It's usually better if the ref doesn't get hit by the sweat you knock off the guy you demolish.

      • The one thing I did forget to mention was that Lydman's shoulder was already lowered anyway since he was stickhandling on the ice - all launching yourself is going to do is put your shoulder at his head.

Stupid fucking comment. If in fact, your intent is to "launch" yourself you do so on a horizontal line. You act like he was in the air for a couple seconds when in fact, if you look at it, you could argue he didn't become airborn until after first contact.
          GO LIONS "24" !!

          • Look at the reverse angle and tell me horizonal means shoulder to shoulder:

If he wasn't in the air, he doesn't miss the target (shoulder).

            • I mean, it's pretty obvious to mewhat Abdelkader was TRYING to do... he was trying to Kronwall the guy... but he went up too soon, so instead of going through the body and shoulder, he wound up getting shoulder and head.

              • He didn't get much shoulder, it was mostly neck and head.

                • Betteman's puppet and mouthpiece Brendan Shanahan has suspended Abdelkader two games. Meh I think one game would have been fine.

Abdelkader sucks anyway, should be 4th line player. Abby's BFF - Babcock crying like a baby about it, what in the world will he do with out his Abby?

Don't sell Shanny short. He has his own mind and is not anyones puppet.

I do think however, an additional two games is a bit much.

Suspend him for game 4 and be done with it.

........and DanO. I spent several years teaching youths how to check. Their instincts are to destroy whatever they hit and have to be taught the difference between a clean hit and the intent to injure. This hit was a classic case on intent to injure. He had other options available to him but, he clearly chose how, and where to deliver the hit.

.......again, I have no problem with highlight hits or hard hits. I do have a problem with players trying to knock another player out of the game (like Shawn Weber slamming Zetteburgs face into the dasher boards last year that went unpenalized by the officials).
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

How do you know Abdelkader wasn't trying to knock him out of the game? How do you know he wasn't aiming for the head? Lydman was injured and did get knocked out of the game. Abdelkader clearly launched himself into Lydman. You don't get that much air under your skates without launching yourself first. That was a very dirty hit and he's lucky he only got a two game suspension.

YUP!!! I was thinking the same thing. I was pretty pissed when that happened and they didn't do shit to Weber.

You would've been just as pissed if an Anaheim player had hit a Wing player like Abdelkader did to Lydman and it went unpenalized.

                          • When Ottawa's Gryba got hit with 2 games, that set the low bar for what Abdelkader was going to get.

The offender should have a minimum amount of games set for the suspension AND then it should it be extended to match however many games the opposing player misses due to injury up to a maximum amount of games.

I don't like that because it opens up the possibility that a team would hold a player saying it was injury IF it hurt the opposing team more than it would them.
