  • "I think he sees the writing on the wall and that Kronwall is starting to surpass him as the top defenseman on the team."

I don't think that's true at all. Kronwall is getting better and Lidstrom is starting to decline but I still think Lidstrom's the top defenseman on the team (if not in the league).

    • Not Wings-related but an unbelievable finish to the Sharks-Canucks game. In the second overtime, a Canucks player took a shot that most of the players thought went into the netting behind the Sharks goal and stopped playing. The puck had actually deflected off of stanchion along the boards right to a Canucks player who put it in the net. The crowd roared, confetti came down and the celebration ensued. The refs then determined that the goal should stand.

      • lol Life's a bitch.

12 seconds left and San Jose are playoff chokers again. Absolutely horrific way to end a season. A fluke goal in double OT this after a non icing blown (?) call by the Linesman in regulation that let the Canucks tie the game with Luongo pulled.

            • It was nice of us to tire out the Sharks.

              • Rafalksi did the Wings a huge favor if he knew he was going to be hobbled next year. Retiring instead of collecting a 6 mill dollar check must have been a hard choice.

Agreed. However, it was the smart thing to do if there was a chance he would have been cut at camp.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

                  • Rafalski will be working in hockey soon. Either the Wings will sign him as a scout, or he will be somewhere on TV.

Are hockey contracts not guaranteed? I thought they were.

                      I don't believe it's like the NFL.

                      • They are guaranteed to the extent of if the team terminates employment, not if the player decides to for example, opt out or retire.

Yeah like the NBA. You could buy a guy out but it would still count against your cap. If they retire though it takes money off the cap total.

                          • There was probably a .5 percent chance that Rafalski would have been cut. Just wasn't going to happen.

                            • Game 1 drew a 25.5 rating in Boston. For some perspective, Game 1 of last year’s Lakers/Celtics NBA Finals drew a 19.1 in the market.

                              • Canucks' names would dishonor Cup:

The Vancouver Canucks are gutless collection of whining, cheap-shot artists whose best quality was their ability to do their hair while driving to the rink — not to mention hair-pulling after they got there.
