  • Wow.. That would free up a nice 6 mil on the books for Holland to work with. If they can find a reasonable replacement we could add a decent forward and be reenergized next year. We need some fresh meat!
    F#*K OHIO!!!

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

    • Shea Weber would be nice. But realistically, we could resign Ericsson, and have enough left over for a good backup Goalie.

I've always been a fan of Rafalski, but I think injuries are starting to wear him down.

      • Gotta keep Ericsson indeed.. Shea Weber wont come here and the Preds wouldnt let him anyhow. They match anything we can offer.

        • Weber is pretty much impossible. Every NHL "expert" that calls into the local radio talk shows says his name like the Wings can just sign him to an offer and get him. He's going to cost a lot and Nashville will match it.

I think they would be wise to keep Ericsson. Defenseman take time, especially gig galoots like him. It seemed a forgone conclusion that he was gone, but this may change it.

I don't think the Wings need much actually. They have quite a lot, find a couple bargain forwards that are defensive minded

          • Iv'e heard that Nashville isn't in top financial shape. I doubt Weber would go anywhere, but we can at least force them to slot a lot of cash his way. They have several other free agents to deal with.

              • Plus now the bar has been lowered for Lids to re-sign...He doesn't have to make over 6 mil now to be the highest paid d-man on the team.

I'm pretty sure Holland is just going to sign Wizniewski (sp) and a good forward...I want one of: B. Richards (pipe dream), Brooks Laich, or Thomas Fleischman. We are going to be really good next year and KH is going to spend to the cap and do it wisely.

                • I still think Lidstrom is gonna call it quits. I think he sees the writing on the wall and that Kronwall is starting to surpass him as the top defenseman on the team. He's going to get out of the way rather than linger.

                  • He didn't look like a lingerer in the playoffs.

                    • I didn't say that at all.

Lidstrom just strikes me as a guy who would rather walk away at the top of his game rather than slowly decline into a shadow of himself.

                      • The way he was talking all year, he seemed like a guy coming back.

                        • If the Nick Lidstrom I saw, at 41, is going to slowly decline into a shadow of himself, I'd say he's probably good for another five years. He's still better than just about anybody.

                          • It's not like Lids has ever actively desired the spotlight or had to be the best on his team. He just does it. I doubt Kronwall getting better will negatively effect his desire to play another year.

                            • I hope so.

I just have this sinking feeling that come June or July, Lidstrom is going to announce his retirement.
