I can agree that Babs needs to scale back his ice time, especially after the AS break but not much. Say 2 minutes or so a game. He needs to be fresher for the playoffs. Lids does play entirely too many minutes.

Ilya Kovalchuk is staying with the New Jersey Devils, agreeing to a staggering 17-year, $102 million deal with the team. The deal is somewhat salary-cap friendly for the Devils, who will absorb an annual hit of $6 million -- the average amount per season. However, Kovalchuk will remain on the books through the 2026-27 season.

This was the deal that finally did it. Following precedent set by long-term contracts signed by Marian Hossa, Chris Pronger, Roberto Luongo and Henrik Zetterberg, the Devils and Ilya Kovalchuk agreed on a 17-year deal worth $102 million.
On Tuesday, the NHL sent it back. According to the collective bargaining agreement, teams cannot make a deal that circumvents the salary cap. But it's a rule that's been hard to prove. Now, the league is taking a stand.
An NHL source confirmed with Sporting News that the NHL rejected Kovalchuk's contract with the Devils.
