I've been reading about it since late this morning.

MURRAY/CARLYSLE are happy about the new angle/perspective it might bring their forwards (from FOLIGNO). I just have to respect that opinion because I don't have much of one on the subject.

I also ran across the following funny piece while reading up on some Duck stuff. It involves a couple of Ducks players but revolves more around the USA v CANADA topic.

His name isn't even on the Stanley Cup yet and the Chicago Blackhawks traded playoff hero Dustin Byfuglien, along with Ben Eager and defenceman Brent Sopel to the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for the Hawks first round pick (24th overall), and a second round pick in this weekend’s draft.

That was a gutsy trade by the Hawks. I hope it bites them in the ass.

They probably will pick up suitable or possibly more valuable replacements in the draft.

With the 21st pick in the first round of the NHL draft Friday at Staples Center, Nill selected Riley Sheahan, a 6-foot-2, 202-pound center from Notre Dame."He's a big, strong, power-forward type of player," Nill said. "I believe he was the only true freshman playing college hockey last year. He was a very big scorer in junior hockey."


Told he would endear himself to Wings fans clamoring for a big man, Nill grinned.
"Yeah, none of this: 'He's small and weak, but he'll get stronger' bit," Nill said. "He's advanced, physically, which is nice for a young player. He's got a Johan Franzen-type body. He's been a big scorer where he's come from."


Some mock drafts had Sheahan, 18, in the top 15. After a long and nerve-racking wait, Sheahan finally heard his name called -- his first name, anyway. Nill, the assistant general manager who runs the Wings' draft, hesitated before pronouncing the last name.

11 American-born players were drafted in the first round. The most ever.

Size def never hurts and the kid tore up junior hockey. His sophmore and junior year will be a bit more telling in what we have. He could be a nice pick but so could any of our late rounders.

I have faith in the Wings drafting.

Red Wings Negotiating Contract Extension For Mike Babcock


General Manager Ken Holland expects the process to take most of the summer, but hopes they can have a deal in place by the start of training camp.

"I'd like to keep him, so we're going to sit down and talk," general manager Ken Holland said Saturday at the 2010 NHL entry draft at Staples Center. "He likes it in Detroit, and I enjoy working with him. I think he's done a tremendous job since he came here in 2005.

Yeah, I can see why they'd be fine with that.

DETROIT – Former defenseman Willie Huber, who played five seasons for the Red Wings between 1978 and 1983 died Monday from an apparent heart attack. He was only 52.

Funny, last weekend I found an old Huber card from 79, or 80, while going through an old box of junk. It must have been lost in there since I was a kid.
