  • Please tell me you guys are kidding. You can't compare how it "used to be". This is the salary cap era where you have to piece together 3rd and 4th lines with whomever you can find in the system not future HoF'ers like we used to.

And by the way Babs brought back a two way game to this team with a back check. Do you guys not remember the Dave Lewis incident? I do very f'ing fondly and I'm very glad we're not in that boat anymore.
    F#*K OHIO!!!

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

    • I turned the game off after the Wings allowed the Sharks to tie the game in the 3rd. No need to watch anymore of that shit. The game was over as soon as the Sharks tied it.

      "Change in goal tomorrow?"
------------------------If there is it's to shake up the team and hopefully get them to pull their FUCKING heads out of their ass.

      GO LIONS "10" !!!!!!!!!!
      GO LIONS "24" !!

Huh? Their defense is not as good. You may want to blame the salary cap but I certainly do not. Some of the best wings defensive forwards were guys like draper and maltby who they got for a song.

Don't let babcock off the hook. He doesn't preach defense like Bowman did and it shows in how they play. Theire defensive zone resposibilities are not as good as they used to be. And salary cap or not, the team that can comfortably hold 2-1 or 3-1 leads generally are the ones that win the cup. This year the Wings have not shown any ability to.

        pANDs

The wings only really bought hall of famers to any great extent that culminated in the 2002 Stanley Cup. That team wasn't great at defense either.

        • That is not a fair point, your comparing Babcock to the greatest coach who ever lived - also in the non-salary cap days. Babs has done fine, the formula for winning the Stanley Cup in the salary cap era is to take advantage of the small window that you have while your young talent who is ineligible for unrestricted free agency is underpaid.

Bring in 20-22 year old talent and win before you have to pay them their fair market value. Once their initial contracts run out, the team gets broken up while a few big stars get left behind. The Blackhawks lose at least a couple of their talented players. Salary cap-wise, they are going to be in really bad shape this off season.

The Sharks are also going to have to make some tough calls with Joe Pavelski and Devon Setoguchi coming up for new contracts this year. The two of them are only making $3MM per year total. Their market value is probably closer to $7.5-$8MM per year.

          • I'm just saying what needs to be pointed out, the guy does not preach great defense. Like I said previously, he brings other assets to the table, but it must be noted that they are not great at defensive positioning as they used to be. And it is costing them. He doesn't emphasize defense like Bowman did, you never hear him talk about it and they don't play like they do. They have been flat out terrible on the PK for the last two playoffs it's embarrassing the extent that they've been as bad as they are.

They have to play better defense, if San Jose finishes the job, I expect they need to go back to the drawing board to do this. Get some better defensive forwards so Datsyuk and Zetterberg don't have to mark the opposing teams best players.

It is totally fair to compare him to Bowman. He's getting the big money, he can handle it. I think they have to recommit to defense. You may choose to blame the salary cap or the refs, I think they need to get better defensively, it just isn't there.

            • From my recollection, BABCOCK was relieved of duty in ANA because he did not preach D enough for managements liking.

ANA went on to win a SC due to a much better D under new coaching.

They have now lost their D advantage and still have not found enough O so its back to square one in ANA.

Its appeared for awhile now that it is very tough to field a complete team every year.

They all get big money these days, the defense has been 'not so good' and Howard has let in that one goal it seems when we really need a stop. I agree with Gonz it is very tough to field a complete team every year.

We went to the finals last year won the Cup the year before and have lost by only one goal each game so far in this series. Comparing ANY coach to Bowman who won 9 Stanley Cups with three different teams is ridiculous.

                • Lets be careful not to be philly fans here... sometimes its right to turn on your guys but other times its more appropriate to be thankful for what you got.

The last time Detroit rallied from 0-3 to force a Game 7 was in 1945.

Overcoming 0-3's is always a historic event. BUT ITS NOT OVER YET!

                      • ......ain't gunna happen. This team has some great players but, it also has players that do not show up. Sharks smell blood in the water and they will close it out.

I would never have thought the Wings would be down 0-3.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

I have to call Bullshit on this. Babcock was not relieved of his dutuy in Anaheim. Anaheim was too cheap to have him under contract during the lockout. The Wings stole him and the Ducks management were very pissed off at Detroit for this.

                            • On a semi-related note.

CBS Sports linked the article I wrote on Game 3 to their NHL page.

Got $50 bucks out of the deal too. Which was probably the ONLY good thing I got out of that abortion of a game.

I guess I can fool some people that I know what I'm talking about.
