I didn't say anything about the officiating. It was actually fairly even. The only bad calls I could think of were at the beginning, and those happened pretty much one to each side.

Sure, officials call the game differently in the playoffs, the NHL tried to enforce more consistent calling, and it never really happened. This has been an issue (if you really want to call it that) for decades.

As for the rest... um... what?
Well, I understand you did not call out the Officials but, I am suggesting that the players get used to playing the game with a certain set of rules and then all of a sudden, the other team is allowed to use tactics that you have been coached all year are not allowable. It becomes a problem especially when the team you are playing is partly owned by the League and they have an interest in making sure their team advances so it will be attractive to a potential buyer.

You did not say it but I will. The stick work that the Cyotes used in the first game is totally unacceptable. Especially if you are a youth coach that wants to make sure their players are not allowed to use their sticks as weapons rather than a piece of equipment.

Second..... my comments came from your fire thrown at player performance. I am suggesting the Wings players stepped up and got the job done despite the fact that the NHL has a different set of rules in the playoffs.

I am not whining about officiating, I am taking issue on your observations on the same game I watched but unlike you, I allowed the game to finish before I espoused my like/dislike about the performances of the participants.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

    • I don't think that's a requirement. I will voice my displeasure when I'm displeasured. Sometimes that's in the early stages of the game.

I don't have a huge problem with Chemi's takes. I either agree with them or I don't. I certainly don't think he's anywhere close to Gonz-like in his toolness. Damn CG, do you even know what that would take? 8D

The issue I have with this is that the officials letting up come playoff time is hardly new, and it certainly isn't just for a team partly owned by the NHL. There is absolutely no way the Wings should not have been prepared for this.

An example I like (and other teams have noted) is that come playoff time Kronwall gets a lot of leeway in how far he can leave his feet before he gets called for Charging. Is it true? Not as much as opponents like to claim, but he definitely gets a lot more freedom to throw himself around. That's been the nature of playoff hockey for a very long time.

Personally, it didn't seem to me that the officiating was particularly one-sided in any single aspect. The "slash" on Stuart might have been a little cheap, but generally if you knock a stick out of a players' hand after he has you beat (and Stuart did get beat on that break), it's going to get you in the box. The really only gregarious calls I thought was the hook on Bertuzzi that in reality was probably a make-up call for an equally bad interference call on Phoenix.

The officiating, to me, was a non-issue. The Wings certainly stepped up their performance in Game 2, but it was in relation to their opponent, not the fellows with the orange armbands.

My comments come from your posts during the game. While I appreciate the fact you recognize they stepped up in game two, my comments state that if I had not watched the game and used your comments to influence me, I would have thought they lost by three goals, not won.

Point here is I have no problem with anyone getting pissed when the team they are watching is not playing up to their standards. I do however have a problem when a team that knows how to play in the post season and is making the adjustment necessary to advance, there is not given due consideration to give them the time to adjust.

Book it. I predicted they would win games 2, 3 and 4. Unless there are multiple goals not allowed (which seems to be the way Bettman works) Wings will take the next two also.

              • You want the Sharks to win?

Yes I do! Fuck the Avs, I still hate them. We would not play them anyway in the next round. The Blackhawks would (if the Sharks and Hawks win their series)

If Game 1 with Nashville is any indication, I wouldn't assume the Hawks are gonna be movin' on. The Predators have been a tough defensive team... teams such as those can be an absolute bitch to eliminate in a seven game series.

As a game is happening... I'm not terribly concerned with analyzing how the performance fits into the larger picture. I save that for any post-game discussions (like the one we're having now). During the game, I am only concerned with what is happening at that time.

Wings aren't playing up to standards - that is if giving up 4 goals is the standard (better not be).

They better come out and grab Game 3 by the throat and make a statement at home.

How can any NHL team have any faith in Jose Theodore at this point in his career?

                        • Boy does Theodore suck! What the hell trying to catch the puck like your a shortstop? That why I gave Montreal a chance. After that goal he should be benched!

Mind baffling that the high powered Caps can't get someone better than him. He was washed up when the Wings scored on him at will in the playoffs two years ago when he was with Colorado.
