  • I understand why many would want more scoring out of Hossa but, it's not like he has just disappeared during the Finals.

I recall some whining from Pens fans after the first or second game where Hossa checked the puck carrier in their own zone, took the puck away, and set up the play that led to a goal.

My point is Hossa has not been totally absent, just has not been the guy scoring.

With the return of Datsuk, Babcock can now has a number of options on who to ride to the net, and who to ask to keep Cindy and Malkenstein in check. The ones assigned to shadow these guys can not be expected to score. Just keep them off the score sheet.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

    • I have no problem with the way he has been playing. He is a big reason they are in this position. In the playoffs, Filpulla has had a lot of space because they've had to pay attention to Hossa. Plus having another big guy the other team has to worry about cushioned the blow of losing Datsyuk for all that time.

But that doesn't mean I'm against him scoring a couple in game 7.

      • For what it's worth, I have a sinking feeling the Pens will win Game 7.

Which means the Wings will probably pull it out.

        • Anything can happen in a game 7 Chemi but I like the Wings chances with last line changes and Veteran leadership.

          • The Pens are all over Hossa.. They arent going to give him any room whatsoever and I dont blame them since he joined the Red Army.

            • Watching on television doesn't really allow for the big picture. Have the Penguins really been keying on Hossa? Why has Zetterberg continued to get scoring chances? Crosby, too. All I see Hossa doing is some fancy stick-handling, carrying the puck for a spell, and some shots from the outside. I'd like to see him go to the net more. Is he afraid to pay that price? He does have the reputation for disappearing at playoff time for some reason. On the plus side, he led the team in hits Game 5.

                • Hossa was one of the top performers in the playoffs last year for the Pens. This year he hasn't been as much of an offensive force for the Wings because he hasn't had to be. But I hope he's due.

                          • Wings killed that penalty, but man they looked porus.

End of the first, 0-0. I found myself just wanting the clock to expire.

                            • Oddly enough, I think that was a very sound penalty kill. The puck was always on the perimeter, they weren't chasing to try and clear the zone. The Penguins were very passive waiting for a mistake, and the Wings didn't give them one. Pittsburgh "controlled" play during the PP, and got all of two shots.

Although if Stuart was guilty of a slash, then Fedvedenko should have gotten 2 for charging on that play that knocked of Helm's... well... helm.

Outside of that, the call is clearly no whistle unless the evidence could be used in a court of law.
