  • Reggie Leach of the Flyers won it one year, he's the only non-goalie to win the Conn Smythe on the losing team. He set a record with 19 playoff goals that season.
    Lions free since 6/23/2020

    • well, Crosby has got to be nearing 19 shots in the Finals... so I guess he still has a chance......

      • Pittsburgh: Malkin

        Detroit: 1. Zetterberg, 1a. Osgood

Ozzie should get some consideration for that pass on Filppula's goal alone. That was really heads up.

        • The Con Smyth goes to the most valuable player of the playoffs, not just the finals.

With that criteria, I am guessing Dats would be first, Ozzie, second Malkin third.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

The turning point in the series (yes, the series, not the game) was Jordan Staal's shorthanded goal. Wings up 2-1 and on the power play, a couple of turnovers later and it's 2-3. The king is dead. It's over, whether #13 returns or not.

              • I don't watch this foreign stuff so I don't know anybody. But I listen to WXYT at work and I love the name Gotzook. It sounds like something a German Homer Simpson would say instead of DOH!

I'm naming my next dog Gotzook.
It's so flat you can watch your dog run away for three days.

                    • he hasn't exactly been lighting it up during this series.

speaking of players not lighting it up during this series...what's up with hossa? does it seem like he's trying too hard to stick it to his old team? like he's trying to do too much on his own and he ends up turning the puck over 8 out of 10 times.

                      • Hossa really hasn't been the same without a healthy Datsyuk. Hossa isn't really a creator type... he's much better at taking a line and putting the puck home.

                        • well it seems like he's trying to be that creator. like i said, i see him trying to skate between two or three defensemen to make something happen and he ends up with a turnover.

i'm a paranoid type of person by nature, so my first thought was conspiracy...why would this guy say "the penguins will never win a cup" after they were just in the finals and take less money to come to detroit? and with everyone seeming to agree that bettman wants crosby to be the new face of the nhl (like lebron in the nba) they'd be more than happy to send in a bad seed to take down the big red machine to make room for him. and why not? everyone likes parody and hates dynasties right? wrong.

when it comes to the ratings game, dynasties win always. that's why the yankees and red sox have the biggest draw in baseball. that's why the lakers have the biggest draw in basketball. that's why the cowboys, patriots, and colts all draw the biggest ratings in football. it's even more obvious in college sports. which bowl game matchup do you think would draw higher numbers...Florida/USC or Florida/Boise State?

So if I were in bettmans little ruby red shoes I'd keep the big red machine around and create some hype about a possible crosby trade to a larger market, like the up and coming chicago blackhawks (how awesome of a rivalry that'd be) or even the rangers or islanders for the nations biggest market. (much like the hype about lebron going to the knicks...tell me that didn't draw a lot of attention to the nba)

                          • By that logic Murphy, the last thing Bettman would want would be for Crosby to leave Pittsburgh. They have some of the consistently highest ratings in the NHL.

                            • you don't think the nhl would get higher ratings if crosby were in one of the largest markets in the country? (NY/Chicago)

                              • Chicago? Maybe.

New York? No. The Rangers are a distant fourth or fifth in the collective NY consciousness.
