  • This thing needs to be finished on Tuesday. No need to flirt with a game 7.

      • I hope Game 6 is another blowout.

        • Ok, hypothetically. say the wings blow the pens out in game 6. who wins the conn smythe?

Could you make a semantic argument for Datsyuk? Wikipedia states the following about the conn smythe trophy:

"The Conn Smythe Trophy is awarded annually to the player judged [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_Valuable_Player"]most valuable to his team[/ame] during the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Hockey_League"]National Hockey League[/ame]'s [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Cup"]Stanley Cup[/ame] playoffs."

If we end up with a blowout win in game 6, it would not be a stretch to say that Pavel was the difference maker. Clearly he would be the player with the most value based on the first four games, which me missed, versus the final two games for which he was in the line up.

If it's a close win, or the wings win it in 7 I could totally see Zetterberg winning it for another outstanding defensive effort.

If the penguins ultimately win the series, I'd have to say Malkin gets it.

          opinions?

          • Cleary deserves some mention in the Conn Smythe talk.

            • I can agree with that. It appears that he and helm have been playing with the most heart on both sides of the puck.

              • I would say the two frontrunners would have to be Zetterberg and Osgood. Zetterberg has completely eliminated Crosby as a factor in 3 of the games. And Osgood has continuely step up with some big time netminding when he needed to. I would go Osgood mostly because I dont see anyone as a real stand out for the CS. He has elevated his game during crucial games in this playoff.

                • unfortunately i think the powers that be will look down upon his game 4 performance. even though his entire team just kinda gave up in front of him.

                  • It's going to be hard for Osgood to make up for the 4 goals in Games 3 and 4. It's not fair, but that GAA took a hit.

However, if the Wings win... you almost have to give it to #30 for his body of work in the playoffs as a whole.

                    • I'm pretty sure Osgood is a lock for the Conn Smythe (assuming the Wings win). I was hoping it would be Franzen but his scoring touch seems to have disappeared.

                      • They can give the damn trophy to Crosby as long as we get Stanley.

                        • Is there a goalie in the world that won three cups and didn't get a smythe trophy?

                            • Depending on how Ozzie does this last game. :-) I think either he or Zetterberg wins the Con Smythe.

Weren't you a little surprised at how quickly the Penguins quit? They carried the play for the first ten minutes of the game, and it didn't take much adversity for them to start going Anaheim on the guys in red. The Wings lost their poise in game 4 after Staal's shorty and then the Crosby goal, but Pittburgh knows they must win one game at Joe Louis.
Actually I was. It seems that Pittsburg really thinks they are superior to the Wings and that the Wings have no business challenging them for the Cup. When they get outplayed their youth shows. It could also be a product of their Coach. He could be telling them that if they do not get "tougher" they have no chance to win.

I agree that Ozzie and Zet should be the front runners but a strong argument could be made for Dats if he picks up a couple of points and/or the game winning goal.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.
