Head checks are being scrutinized at the youth level. If they are going to allow it at the top, then the only message here is that you can not do it while you are learning but if you are good enough to get to the next level, it is OK.
It was necessary for the Officials to make a statement for players that take liberties.
.....I still do not understand why Pronger is allowed to use his stick to check when others get called for crosschecking......my best guess (and I have not really looked into it) is that he points his blade downward which suggests he is protecting himself even though he is using is as an offensive move. I will watch closer......and it is a part of the rules that allows an otherwise illegal hit to be legal.
