  • Draft Days ahead

Usually I am more on point with draft stuff but being let go at my place of work 1/7 (with no writeup or warning) has turned into a FT job looking for work. But I do have some time and thought I would put this thread up. This is for draft news, games etc. at least until draft day. I will put up prolly a couple draft sims a day if they update them.

The first one is PFN which was updated 3/13 8pm

    28) Walter Nolen DT Ole Miss: Even with Levi being resigned DT is still a need for the Lions. Alim has an ACL injury he is going to coming back from and even when he comes back there is a real possibility he is not the same player. Even if Alim does reach that level again it is going to take several weeks. Nolen, in my estimation, is top 5 in talent in this draft. He is super twitchy and explosive bringing that critical up the middle pass rush that is the hardest for opposing QBs to deal with. The physical traits are not going to wow people. but look at the film every opposing offense looking to take him out. He still consistently beating double teams. Really twitchy player. He still needs refinement (what rookie doesn't) but he is good against the run as well. He can play at the 5 or 3 tech spots. It would not be a surprise to see him starting Week 1. The guy just works and very well has the look for a high end contributor, and if he is here @28 the Lions should sprint like Xavier Worthy on a GO route.

others available: Grey Zabel T/G, Donovan Jackson G, Donovan Ezeiruaku Edge

    52) Mike Green Edge Marshall: Once i saw Green starting to fall, kept trying to trade up to get him but could not find a partner until Seattle. I gave up the 60 and a 3rd rounder next year to get this pick. Now Green is an excellent pass rusher but there are some warts here. He needs to add muscle to his upper body as Bigger tackles will latch onto him. And he has very little experience in coverage (21 snaps over his two years in Marshall). I think he can add that 10 lbs of muscle though and that will put him in the 260-265 pound area which is a touch lighter than the Lions like in their DEs. But should really aid in helping him set the edge. The pass rushing instincts and natural ability is elite though and putting him on the side opposite of Hutch in passing downs would cause all sorts of havoc. Huge upside here. Very coachable too. Clearly the BPA here.

Others available: Aireontae Ersery OT, Jaxson Dart QB, Prince Umanielen Edge, Tate Rutledge G

    110) Ozzy Trapilo T Boston College: Traded down from 102 moving up 196 to 145. Trapillo is a tall tackle (6'8, 316). He has a very good feel for pass blocking and rarely gets beat on twists. Like Green probably needs another 10lbs of muscle, but that can be done with NFL training. Very good on angles off the snap. Like most tall tackles not going to get a lot of push in the run game but he is able to consistently seal the edge there. Could be a bit more forceful with his hands overall. Speed can give him problems inside (which reminds me of Decker a bit). I would expect him to come in and compete with Skipper for the swing tackle role right away. And I think he could very much be a solid at times top 10 starting tackle (much like Decker).

    130) Dont'e Thorton Jr. WR Tennessee: A tall lanky WR (6'5 -- 203) with excellent speed (4.3 flat 40). Definitely capable of taking the top off the defense. Able to get past physical and press corners and his ability to stack corners is good. An RAS of 9.84. He would be at the least a serious KR and PR threat. A former QB too. THere has been erratic production from him though. Still you are talking 4th round here. Has a limited route tree. There are some serious tools to work with here. Also has the strength and knack for contested catches.

    145) Miles Frazier OL LSU: He has extensive experience all along the line and an eye popping RAS (9.57), Likely an interior guard in the mold of former Lion Jonah Jackson. Good strength and delivers the first blow in pass protection. Capable mauler in a phone booth. Lateral quickness is an issue but it is good enough in pass protection. Has the ability to become a starter down the road.

    228) Trevor Etienne RB Georgia: He might not have the speed or power of his brother (though he put up a very sound 4.42 in Indy). He does run a lot more efficent with better vison than his program. Plenty of tread left on the tires here. Trevor does have good pass blocking abilities. Sticky hands and knows how to use his blockers well. One potential red flag was that he was arrested and faced 4 charges in 2024. That caused him to be suspended a game this year with Georgia.

245} Bihal Kone CB Western Michigan: A tall corner (6'1), length (30 7/8 arms) and speed (4.43) are very nice building blocks for a corner. Pretty athletic too (8.25 RAS). Even when he gets behind he knows how to take playmaking angles to disrupt passes. Needs to get stronger which effects run tackling. That seems correctable though. Willing to stick his nose in though.

2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

If Mike Green is dropping that far into the 2nd round, it’s due to the off field stuff.

Yeah. If he somehow does get to 52 I'd be all over it though.

But if he’s falling for the off the field issues, then there’s a good chance the Lions would also steer clear.

On talent alone it’s a no brainer, but that’s why him sliding that far seems unlikely if there aren’t real concerns with the background.

I cant get into the draft picking at the end of the first round...now that means we had a good season so that is a good trade off....the draft for me is only fun when its a top 10 pick in a good draft....Trying to figure out who the other 27 players are that will be taken before the Lions pick is just too much.

Played around with the PFN simulator for a bit. It's still not really attuned I think, and way too favorable at least in my mind:

              28. Traded back to 36 and picked up 70 (and swapped a day 3 pick for a lower one).
              36. Donovan Jackson, OG Ohio State - stud who kicked out and played OT in a pinch this past year. The long term running mate for Mahogany. Passed on a number of edge players.
              60. Darius Alexander DT Toledo - Explosive 305lber, similar in style to Levi. He seems more likely to go in the late first than late 2nd, but this might not be totally out of bounds.
              70. Jayden Higgins WR Iowa State - was all set to take an Edge, when I saw this guy sitting there. He's got Tee HIggins frame and play style. Perfect long term fit at the X.
              104. Jack Sawyer DE Ohio State - this is where it gets really crazy, still had my pick of a number of DEs and took this guy. Almost went with Femi Oladejo from UCLA as the higher upside play.

Didn't bother with the rest of the draft. This would be a monster haul, and although I didn't get the true explosive edge guy I'm hoping for, couldn't argue with.
