Jared Goff was the guy who co-designed the offense with Ben Johnson. He is making the calls at the line of scrimmage. He will be fine.

The Lions need to get to the point where they can use their punter to rely on the defense. It would help them if they could win games that are low scoring struggles, you always want to score as many points as you can, but sometimes it needs to be a little more like KC. When Goff gets into trouble is if they are down a couple scores and it doesn't look like the defense can get the needed stops. He and the team can start to press and make mistakes. Not all the time, he was great against Buffalo trying to lead a comeback, pretty poor against Washington. But this is true of all quarterbacks, if your team gets down you have to take more risks.

They also need to get to the playoffs healthy.

Here's the rough contract I would offer for each, but I don't really know the cap room:

      CD3 -- current contract 2 years
Onwuzurike -- backup DL money 1 year + bonuses
Zeitler - same contract this year
      Patrick - WR3 money
      Barnes - starting LB money
      Melinfonwu - prove-it one-year contract
      Davenport - vet min
      Skipper - backup OL money
Dorsey -- wait to see health
Vildor -- let him go already. He's a below-average backup.
      Muhammed -- backup DL money
Bridgewater -- He'll be only 33 next season. Would have to trust coaching staff assessment on Hooker. Inclined to let him walk or offer a coaching job
      GO LIONS "24" !!

Doesn't make it any more true, the larger it's written.

I guess Rakestraw can fill whatever Vildor can do, but we saw so little of him his rookie year do we really want to bank on him? Every year they seem to be in the playoffs with CB3 abd 4 playing so they may not have a choice.

Dude started the season CB5 or CB6. I dunno what you think you're gonna find that deep on the depth chart.

Yeah, if you are expecting your 2nd round draft pick to fill the 3rd string CB role, that’s a problem.

That deep on the depth chart you have either journeymen, washed vets or deep cut rookies.

Yeah, Rakestraw is not even playing the same position. They see him as a nickel.

Vildor is a backup who should be making his mark more on special teams. If everyone gets hurt and you are relying on him to man up on a top receiver, you are going to be in trouble. If they sign him for next year, he has to win a position as a backup. People overrate how plentiful good corners are.

                  Melinfonwu - prove-it one-year contract
When your starting Safeties are Branch and Joseph - you pretty much go look for another organization to sign that 1 year "prove it" contract. It's time to move on before your career is over (he'll be 26 come the start of 2025 season). There is nothing he can prove to the Lions that is going to displace either of those two guys.

It certainly would nice to have him back cheaply and healthy but that just doesn't seem likely.

Probably not BUT his extensive injury history is going to tamp down his price.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

Looks like we’re losing more coaches.

If Iffy does re-sign, it would probably be for the Four Year Player Qualifying contract. They did this with Will Harris two years ago. You can basically pay the guy 2.5 million and have it only count 1 million against the cap. It can only be used for 1-2 players and the benefit is split if there are two players . There doesn't seem to be other players on the team that are candidates for this.

PFF rated Vildor 114th out of 118 CBs this season. He's no longer a young guy with possibly some upside. I'd rather roll the dice with a UDFA.

At the same time, if he's on the PS, it's not a major concern.
