I think they have to go DL early in the draft, maybe even double up like they did in Holmes first year.

As for Davis, he leaves you are looking for a starting CB, a borderline #1 or co #1 really until Arnold proves he’s up to the task. Rakestraw had so little action and has history of injuries, so hard to say he can be counted on. The fall back is Amik, but he’s best as the 3rd CB.

The good thing is, there are a number of CBs set to hit the market this year that are all in the good but not elite class. That could depress the numbers a bit and make Davis more affordable than we think. Last years FA CBs did not break the bank, but the seasons FA class is stronger (Chidobe Awuzie had the biggest deal at 3/$36M).

I thought Slay didn’t want to be a part of the shitshow any longer. If he could have seen the future maybe he would have changed his mind.

He wasn’t happy and challenged Patrica so he was shipped out for at best 50 cents on the dollar.

As for Ben J's replacement, I could have sworn they said when Scottie Montgomery was hired it was because he was being groomed as Ben's replacement.....Maybe I misheard that, or they were just being kind, bu I remember them saying that.

I'd be stunned if the OC is anybody but Engstrand or Montgomery - and whoever the loser is there could be headed to Johnson or Glenn's team for an OC job.

DC I think is a much more complicated choice I think - I know people seem to think Sheppard is next in line, but he has been a LB coach for 4 years. That's the extent of his coaching experience. I think if if anybody from the current staff gets the job, it's probably Townsend. But I think this might be where the go outside the house to get a more experienced hand.

I know that the bottom line for these guys is getting paid, but I think there are a lot of players that want to play for Campbell.

I think that will have a bearing on free agent signings

The off-season will be much more of a slog than when they were bad. This was when all the excitement was ramping up with the draft and free agency and dreams of something better. The off-season will be interesting but you are counting down days until the regular season to try and get back to the same spot they were before they failed on Saturday.

What Holmes has been really good at is identifying the players he considers the core of the team, and signing/extending them before he absolutely has to. If there is a "hometown discount" to be found in player contracts, it's there. A lot of players are more than willing to sign before the end of their contracts to avoid the potential stress of free agency (or risk a career changing injury during a contract year), even if it means they could potentially make more money waiting.

I agree that Emgstand and Montgomery are the favorites, but I'd think Fraley is in the OC discussion -- if only to make sure he's not poached by someone else.

I've already heard Williams' name brought up to repace Glenn and it makes sense. Being a potential replacement for Glenn might have been part of the allure to come here. He has the resume and seems to command a lot of respect. The way the DL performed all season with a bunch of guys off the street was impressive.
