  • Fellow Lions fans and forum members lost badly and embarrassingly.

There will always be a few head-scratching moments in a game that causes one to second-guess, but at the end of the day, the overall play is what lost the game. Goff and the Defense Sunk (Before Goff got hit).

    Brand New Detroit Lions

That play should never have been ran, I don't care how many times you explain it to him that he has to throw it away if nothing is there, you can't give Jamo of all people the choice to make a bad impulsive decision. Again, that doesn't mean I am ready to ship Jamo out though.
I’m not saying ship him out tomorrow. I was not a fan of they way he slowed down at the end of his TD run, forcing Gibbs to make an extra block; I think he carries some of the blame for the int in the endzone because he got too casual at the end of the route, and the lack of hustle at the end of the game.

To me, that limits how much you can pay him when the time comes; because it’s not like a bigger paycheck is gonna help him get his head on straight.

      • That trick play disaster is on Campbell. He has to be on the phones vetoing that shit. They do run a lot of trick or gadget plays and it fits in with the offense but in that situation you need to go with your bread and butter plays. It's a desperation when there doesn't need to be any. The Commanders looked like the team who had been there before and the Lions lost their shit.

        • The issue with Jameson Williams is you saw how important he was even yesterday but he is still immature. You just cannot find that type of explosive talent anywhere but they need to continue on working on his maturity. His gravity opens up a lot for the other players but there is a limit.

If Johnson does leave then you might be seeing alot less trick plays.

            • Who knows on that, I like them but in that situation you have to go down swinging with your best plays and that can never be a receiver who has never thrown a pass.

That might not be a bad thing even if he comes back.

I get that the trick plays are fun, and that the players love it and it's a part of why they've bought in so fully to what Ben Johnson does. But for chrissake, he does get too cute with his playcalls at times. He played himself at least twice yesterday trying to do something cute when the simple straightforward play would have been more effective.

                • Bring on Tanner Egstrand or Scotty Montgomery and whoever is the guy coming up for the defense (Kelvin Sheppard?)The 'will they won't they' news cycle, coaching interviews, and constant noise on that front doesn't help. I'm ready to see what's next.

I'm not saying Ben Johnson isn't good or Aaron Glenn can't gameplan, but man it feels like they were out coached pretty hard on both sides of the ball last night and the distractions can't have helped. I understand the defense is extremely injured but there was no attempt to even try to disrupt or stop the RPOs. It's like Washington just copied the template from last year's Baltimore game and did the exact same thing, but had their receivers stand a little bit closer to the sidelines.

When a team makes 0 mistakes, it's because our team did not disrupt their game plan at all. That game went exactly how Washington wanted from the first quarter fumble on.

                  • I hope whatever self scouting they do about themselves they clean some of that stuff. It seemed like a gameplan of "if plan A didn't work, we need to do plan A even harder."

The thing is with the defense is you have all the OTAs, mini-camps and training camp to do a lot of the work to defend that kind of stuff. It takes many reps to get communication down, if you are down to 2nd and 3rd stringers and guys off the street they do not have those reps. People can throw around the "two weeks to prepare" but how many true practices do you have?. They did look unprepared but the defensive line was bad and that hurts the linebackers. And we know what happened with the secondary. Just a bad situation all around.

But losing the coordinators is not a death knell. Good organizations withstand that and sometimes benefit from new blood. It's not like the coordinators were making chicken salad out of chicken shit (when they had health!).

                    • I’m going to be curious to see what they do if Glenn leaves. Not sure that Sheppard is ready. One of the Athletic guys mentioned Dennis Allen, as the Lions basically play his scheme and he’s a good DC, just not a good HC. And obviously DC knows him well.

I don’t think they’d go after Saleh, but I’d be open to that. It just depends upon how much DC looks at the scheme and is willing to change it up or mix in new ideas.

I think it will be Engstrand if Johnson leaves.
