Lets be honest here - Goff should have been nowhere near enough to get blocked in the first place.
He needs to be consistent. If he's going to slide to "protect himself" then WTF is he doing trying to be Brian Branch? Get the fuck out of the way. Only thing he can do is make things worse than he already made it - by putting himself into a position he is literally INCOMPETANT to perform - trying to make a tackle and fight off blocks to do it. Shit, he isn't even geared up for the job...

It probably is human instinct on his part. All of us have had an Oh, Shit! that's my fault and then try to rectify the mistake as quick as possible.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

      • I think they pay these QB's 50 million + to be smart enough to talk to instinct and put it in it's place.
At least if they aren't built to do the job. Josh Allen? Ok, I'll bite. He can run over that S/LB trying to make the block - or just run by them if necessary.
        Goff isn't doing either.

          • I don’t imagine the Lions would get involved, but it’s fun to dream about him across from Hutch.

Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett has requested that the Cleveland Browns trade him.

If the Lions assumed Myles contract all of that would be non guaranteed, He has 19 million cap hit for the 2025 season and 20.3 million in 2026. Cleveland would get a 32 million cap hit.

              • It’s going to take a shit ton of draft capital to land him, if Cleveland even agrees to shop him. If a team invests that much in a player then they will also certainly sign him to a long term deal. So yes, the cap situation short term looks fine but his next deal will be a top of the market contract.

                  • I would love for the Lions to get Myles Garrett but it seems like a longshot and I'm afraid we are going to be subjected to daily hot takes on Detroit Sports Radio until there is resolution.

                    • Yeah, all this chatter is dependent on Cleveland actually fielding offers of a trade. Which, ya know, it's the Cleveland Browns. Who knows what they are thinking at any given point?

                      • Cleveland going to try and pull a real life Sonny Weaver and get all the 1st round picks back.

Kinda how I see it too....Makes alot of money, would cost alot of valuable draft capital, and is 29 years old.....Too many fans want to give up everything and gamble on one guy....The strength of this organization has been Holmes finding the right guys in the draft, not going after super expensive players on other teams.

                            • Myles Garret would be a very expensive rental if we sign Hutch to the expected extension. I've read that we've gone heavily into our cap beyond next year, already having less than over 25 teams.

Seems really unlikely that we could afford him once his current contract is over.

                              • The argument for doing that trade is how much money is in the cap in 2026 and that 2025 is the year. That is certainly the line of argument the hot take masters will use. I think the cap number in 2026 is somewhat scary it can easily be lowered with a few restructures. I would be utterly shocked if Goff's cap hit was 69.6 million in 2026.

Whether they get Garrett or not, they do need an edge rusher on the other side. Whether that in a DE or an LB, they need one.
