Going to have a hard time saying Goff wasn't alright after that hit a month later.
If that was the case he shouldn't have been playing in the games that mattered most for an entire month - even before the Division game after a weeks rest.

He’s talking about a hit in the Washington game, on the pick six play.

He wasn't touched on the pick-6 play.
Added: Ok, I see what you see - and he's a DEFENDER - he doesn't get the protection of a QB in the pocket when he's the guy trying to make a tackle.
TD, no penalty - and no targeting either.

He was hit, he went to the locker room and the penalty was obvious in real time.

Using the helmet as a weapon against the head and neck area absolutely could be called targeting. That doesn’t really have anything to do with the protection of the QB, or whether he’s a defender or not. But most of the times targeting is going to be called with the action around the ball

Luvuu was fined for the hit.

That hit was MEH on anyone trying to make a tackle - if they WEREN'T a QB.
The fact he was a QB doesn't make him defenseless - in fact it's the opposite - he's the defender....
He isn't protected from the violence that 90% of the rest of the DEFENSIVE players have to experience in that situation.

He is protected there, did you watch the game? Mike Pereria said it should have been called. It is one of the most obvious fouls you will see. They screwed the pooch there
Lions QB Jared Goff took a questionable hit after throwing a pick-6

He is the relevant part of the rule:

A passer who is standing still or fading backward after the ball has left his hand is obviously out of the play and must not be unnecessarily contacted by an opponent through the end of the down or until the passer becomes a blocker, or a runner, or, in the event of a change of possession during the down, until he assumes a distinctly defensive position. However, at any time after the change of possession, it is a foul if:
                  (1) an opponent forcibly hits the quarterback’s head or neck area with his helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder

                  (2) if an opponent lowers his head and makes forcible contact with any part of his helmet against any part of the passer’s body. This provision does not prohibit incidental contact by the mask or the helmet in the course of a conventional block.
Commander LB Frankie Luvu was fined for his hit on Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff, but he should have been flagged for it, too.

It might have made a difference...it might not have...If the penalty was called it would have been first and 10 around the Lions 20 or so....Maybe they hold them to a FG but most likely not.

Yeah, I remember thinking that the Lions got screwed on the call, but I really wasn't upset because I didn't think they could keep the Commanders from scoring a TD

                      • Make the call,.I have no idea what would have happened but if I saw it in real time on a couch 20 miles away what is the ref doing? It was a blatant cheap shot that sent Goff to the locker room.

                        • So I was incorrect, it does matter that he is a QB even after the INT. It was a cheap shot regardless. Whether it would have changed the game, who knows. But I bet that gets called if it’s Mahomes.

                          • That's the most obvious rule interpretation of the play. But even if that rule didn't exist, you just can't go helmet to helmet like that. That was maybe legal back in the days of Dick Butkus, but those days are long gone.

I'm certain you are right about them calling that if it happened to Mahomes.

                            • Don't know what he's talking about, I'm having a blast watching his inept handling of the team.

Oh, if that been Mahomes, the flag is thrown within the next blink and Luvuu is probably ejected without discretion.

Then again, Mahomes never takes that hit because he's already thrown himself to the turf like he's been shot by a sniper the instant he feels a hand on him.
