To me the Patriots job makes the most sense for Johnson, because he will get a lot of rope after Kraft was tormented over firing Mayo, plus he gets to work with Maye, plus they get a decent draft pick to work with.

The Titans situation makes me appreciate the Lions even more and how they have a collaborative organization with everyone on the same page.

        Titans moves in recent years:
        - Fire GM Robinson , keep HC Vrabel.
        - Fire HC Vrabel, keep GM Carthon.
        - Fire GM Carthon, keep HC Callahan.

Not going with the organization clean sweep in one offseason.

I was thinking Raiders as well for a few reasons…
        - Tom Brady will be greatly involved in the search.
        - Mark Davis has splurged on signing HCs. Gruden, McDaniels.
        - GM Tom Telesco is very bright and comes across as a likable person.

It’s going to come down to the Raiders pitch about the QB position and what they can do there. That’s a huge question too.… IF the Raiders have interest in Johnson, that is. It’s TBD.

I hope at least one of the coordinators gets a job, they deserve it. None of the openings are appetizing. In retrospect the Lions job was much more attractive than it was thought at the time. They had a quarterback and were willing to do a clean sweep and rip it to the studs rebuild. They brought in a lot of experience in the front office and Campbell had experience. This was a stark difference from when they hired Quinn and then Patricia, it always felt like a skeleton crew to me

None of these openings seem like they are willing to do something similar. They are staying with failed GMs or in cap hell. The Krafts seem delusional, yeah they have a promising quarterback but they totally whiffed on the last hire.

Oh, I definitely don’t think the Patriots job is perfect by any means, but it looks like gold compared to the Chicago job where the McKaskeys don’t think the GM and coach have to be on the same page. Like, what?

I just think the Krafts are clueless. They designated Jerrod Mayo as the successor to Belichick long ago, then they pushed out Belichick and it was apparent they had no plan and Mayo was not ready. It's a weird deal they won 6 Superbowls with a great quarterback and a great coach with an idiosyncratic culture built on Belichick that has not been reproduced anywhere else. I think their only play is Vrabel.

My thoughts as well. Definitely not Chicago. That being said I don't think he's going anywhere. He loves it here. He loves Campbell, he loves his players, he loves us.

For the Pats: Lucky or good, Kraft needed to whiff.

At coach, whoever succeeded Belichick was going to suffer from comparisons. Whoever is next succeeds Mayo, with Belichick tipping his hand as having gone into semi-retirement.

At “GM”, whoever succeeded Belichick was going to suffer from confusion. Nobody really knows who Eliot Wolf was in the mix of Belichick and the Krafts, père et fils. Wolf has a lot of experience with the Packers and Patriots, but has never been The Guy.

Johnson hates puppies, though. And he pulls up to drive-thru windows without knowing what he wants to order.

Johnson does have a tough job on fit. He rose fast, so he hasn’t had a decade of reps developing lieutenants. He’s also an Xes-and-Os compliment to MCDC’s “leader of men” attributes. Not sure where that vibe comes from on a prospective staff. He doesn’t just need a solid front office, he needs a star DC and an OC-lite who doesn’t mind being a force extender for the HC/OC.

I heard Ben Johnson made an online donation to St. Jude, then disputed the charges with his bank 24 hours later.

Someone of such terrible character really shouldn't be considered for a head coaching position. /shakes head.

Possibly even more importantly, his young family likes it here.
