  • Yeah, it’s solid starting LB money. And probably more like a 2 year deal with a decision point before year 3. Good deal if he’s back and healthy.

I would think this takes LB off the board early, but who knows. Holmes is not shy about loading up at a position if it’s one of his guys.

    • I have no problem with extending him. Derrick was playing well before he got injured, now the question comes is what to do with CD3?

If the Lions want to go cheaper it makes sense for them to bring Slay back on the cheap on a 1-year deal and let him finish his career in Detroit. Have him mentor Terrion and our young CB’s and let CD3 walk. Plus it buys Brad some time and Slay clearly wants to come back.

      • As always, we have to see the details but it seems like a slight overpay but I like Barnes. Holmes seems to address the holes before the draft and this is that type of move

The absence of Barnes hurt the Lions last year.

To me he was behind CD and Levi in priority re-signings but it's good that they got this done.

        • Yeah, they paid for what he was becoming and probably a little what they hope he can still add (pass rush). So slight overpay probably but not bad. Sheppard loves him so that was probably part of it, give the new guy the tools.

          • Anthony Pittman back to the Lions - special teams ace back basically taking JRM roster spot.

Levi, to me because of the depth of the DT class in this draft, could very well be lost in FA. I can see a team thinking there is another 2-3 levels with him and paying him as such.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

              • I tend to agree. Levi’s 27 and has basically 1 good year under his belt. I like what he brought this year, but if some team throws $9-10M a year at him, good luck to him and go sign a couple of solid vets and look to the first 2 days of the draft for your next man up.

In particular, I’ve shifted my view of that first round pick to thinking if one of Nolen/Grant/Harmon are there that’s probably the way to go. But a lot can happen in the next month+.

                • The reason why a team might spend a lot more is because Levi was playing great at the end of the year, especially in the season ender. I don't think McNeill will be ready at the start of the year, if they lose Levi, the middle of the line will be a huge weakness

                  • Don’t disagree but it’s sort of like the Jonah Jackson decision last year - and if they let Levi walk, you look for a suitable vet at an affordable price that can fill the gap (like Zeitler) and then get a young guy who’s ready for rotation snaps early in the draft.

                    • I think that's playing with fire, but we'll see what they do. Finding a guy who can get pressure playing at DT and DE is a tall task. I also think the Zeitler replacement was a very successful anomaly.

                      • Ezekiel Turner resigned. A good day for STers.

Nolen is a guy I absolutely love. If he is there @28 I am Xavier Worthying that pick up there. Perfect pick that might be in the top 5 in talent in this draft. Plop him next to DJ Reader and sign a solid vet guy. Alim probably is not going to look like the Alim we last saw until midseason at best. Now the question none of us know outside of the Lions----is how far along is Martin? Can he at least be a rotational piece in 2025?

                          • I have up on Martin after the game where he resembled a blocking sled near the goal line.

I don't. Defense, defense, defense. They need DL, LB, and CB. I wouldn't mind all defense with an OL.
                              GO LIONS "24" !!
