MCDC says the McNeill and CD3 injuries are probably season-ending.
Seriously?
If that’s the case, I’m nearing panic mode for this season and it might be like 2016 when MVP candidate Stafford injured his finger. Losing McNeill in particular is something that the Lions can’t make up for. This can be described as an unprecedented amount of injuries on one side of the ball. Bad luck for the best Lions season since the 1950s and it would be very disappointing for our fanbase if that’s where it heads.
The amount of pressure put on the Lions offense to carry the team is nearing too much.
Maybe the Lions should declare for the onside kick on every kickoff. Ok, maybe that’s irrational for me to say it… or is it not irrational? I’d consider it depending on if it’s an opposing QB like Josh Allen.
When is Ennis Rakestraw Jr. expected back?
Might need him to step up when he returns from injury. A guy with late 1st RD/ early 2nd RD draft prospect talent. Relying on two rookie CBs would be scary … though it’s not asking much to improve Vildor’s spot. There were a couple instances in this game where Vildor was lucky to not be called with DPI/ holding.
I don't think Rakestraw would supplant Vildor. More likely rotate or play slot corner. He went on IR with a bad hamstring. But it didn't seem like it would be more than the 4 weeks
The offensive line is in a bad slump. They have some time to fix it, but the clock’s ticking. Getting Decker back didn’t help.
The Bills doing those false pulls and dragging the LBs right out of the play was brilliant. Not a new concept, but they knew it would work against this defense and those 3rd and 4th string LBs.
Take a lesson from My Rams in their Superbowl run in 2021. They started out hot as hell and then they slumped mid season. At one point during the season they lost 3 straight games by double digits. They steadied the ship and finished 12-5 but they weren't like overwhelming favorites going into the playoffs
I was thinking earlier this year that this Lions team reminds me a bit of the 2009 Saints. They won a lot of games they probably shouldn’t have, including the NFC Championship. I’d forgotten they lost their last 3 games of the season and still won it all. Hopefully we repeat the latter and not the former.
You hope the new linebackers can get more acclimated as the season goes on. Alexander and Long are not scrubs but I doubt the communication is there. There is a reason why they have mini-camps, OTAs and training camp. The good news is the gameplan you need to use for Josh Allen is probably only applicable to on other quarterback
