If they punted it on that 4th down inside the 30, I wouldn't have complained. To me that's the edge case scenario. But I was fine with the attempt even if it failed.
      Ditto.

Going forward, with the defensive line as banged up as it is, I can fully see that Campbell is leaning more on the offense to carry this team. We can score and outscore anyone. I don't always agree with the 4th down calls and it seems like the passing game bogged down a bit, I do expect to see more aggression on offense going forward, depending on how our defense does.

Campbell should always lean on that offense in a close game - because that is what it's built to do.
GB (or any opponent for that matter) offense as well as the opposing HC was powerless to do anything - except rely on their defense to get a stop.
That is EXACTLY where you want to keep the opposing team in the current NFL that is offensive centered. Wishing they could get the ball - because they can't score without it.
          -----
I think what we are really seeing is what he really wanted to do early in his tenure but couldn't. At the end of the day, he wants to control the game as much as possible - and he's entrusting his players to give him that level of confidence to do it.

Lol just realized that this year we scored FOUR fourth-down TDs on these punks.

I am glad to see Jamo becoming a real NFL receiver, not just a speedster and deep threat.

I am amazed by all of the ignorance of the rules on social media concerning Goff falling to a knee prior to handing the ball off on the 4th down play.
The people who are saying he was down are the same dumbasses that scream "forward lateral!" when QB makes an underhand forward pass.

I am not amazed by all of the butt-hurt packers and Vikings fans that think the refs are deliberately making calls for the Lions. A legit argument could be made that more ticky tack and questionable calls went the packers way

              Fuck those morons,

Someone on reddit put together a fun 1min video about the Packers fans whining about the referees. I don't know how to post just the video, so here's the whole reddit post:

Dan Campbell said Lions are 'destined for this.' Well, 'this' feels like Super Bowl 2025

                    Dave Birkett
                    Detroit Free Press

                    Paywall article.

"This is not happenstance man. This doesn't just (expletive) happen. This has been in the making, man. This has been in the making. We are all supposed to be here together, man. We're destined for this. Just stay the course."

Dan Campbell said what so many people were thinking after the Detroit Lions willed their way to another victory Thursday, this one on a walk-off field goal by Jakes Bates, after converting a fourth-and-1 that few if any other NFL coaches would have tried, against their most hated rival in the NFC North.

The Lions feel like a team of destiny, one that's headed for Super Bowl 2025 in New Orleans two months from Monday.

The circumstances don't matter. The opponent, the venue, the weather, who they have on the field or how many defensive starters they're playing without (five Thursday, in case you were wondering).

The Lions keep winning games, a team-record 11 straight now, and with four weeks left in the regular season, it feels like there's not much anyone can do to stop them.

"We're the best in the league at what we do," rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold said Thursday night at Ford Field. "We got the best defensive coordinator in this league and we got the best coach in the league, and I said one thing about it, we got a whole bunch of savages on this defense so when somebody goes down and (Aaron Glenn) or Dan calls somebody up, they're calling up a savage. And then when you get that savage and you put him in the room with more savages, what you get? You got a whole bunch of savages. So that's what it is."

The Lions beat the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, 34-31, while fielding a nametag-needed defense that started three players who signed with the team a week ago.

They haven't had Aidan Hutchinson or Marcus Davenport or Derrick Barnes for months, and didn't have DJ Reader or Taylor Decker or, for most of the Packers game, Alim McNeill.

Yet they found a way to win by playing complementary football.

They controlled the clock and piled up points on offense. They divvied up responsibilities on defense; Pat O'Connor, Al-Quadin Muhammad, Trevor Nowaske and Jonah Williams — none of whom was on the Lions' 53-man roster at the end of training camp — all played 50% or more of the defensive snaps Thursday. And Bates banged home his third game-winning field goal of the year.

"I just love the fact, we just find a way," Campbell said. "And you feel like the narrative going in, man, we weren’t buying any of this stuff about where we were at. No excuses, and our guys knew where we were at. We don’t need to talk about being tough, we don’t need to talk about being resilient, we live it, and it’s what we are. And, man, we just proved it again."

There's some poetry perhaps in the fact the Lions proved it against a Packers team that has controlled the division for the better part of the past three decades, and remains the last NFC North team to win the Super Bowl.

Green Bay went 10-6 and made the playoffs as a wild card in 2010, but had that team-of-destiny feel once it got rolling down the stretch. The Packers finished that season with 16 players on injured reserve, including six starters, yet beat two teams with double-digit victories to close the regular season and stayed hot in the playoffs.

They went on the road to win postseason games against the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears, and beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl with backups playing key roles at running back, tight end, linebacker and on the offensive line.

Some of Green Bay's replacements that year turned out to be upgrades, or were at least trade-offs, and the Packers won it all by playing true team football.

The Lions currently have 18 players on IR, including four starters. Several, like Alex Anzalone, will return by the playoffs, and the defense has avoided major drop off by adding experienced veterans to play depth roles.

O'Connor, an Eastern Michigan alum who opened the season on the Lions' practice squad and played more snaps than any other defensive lineman Thursday, marveled at how cohesive the unit looked despite its moving parts.

"It's a great feeling knowing what we can do with the people we had today, and just overcome and win like that is insane," he said. "That's a hat's off to us because next man up and it's a great feeling."

The Lions have mostly taken their cues from Campbell on how to navigate their injuries, making no excuses for who's out and no exception to the expectations for who steps in. On Thursday, they kept things simple and dialed up the aggression, and walked away with a playoff berth in hand.

Campbell insisted after the game he didn't know the Lions clinched a postseason spot with the win, and when he found out, he didn't much care that they did.

The accomplishment was worth a golf clap, he said, and not much more because there are bigger things to accomplish. The playoffs were expected, and for teams of destiny, they're just a start.

"We want to find a way to get this one seed, and that’s the priority," Campbell said. "We know what our goals are.”
