He flashed a few plays but his ceiling is a 10-15 play guy

It was probably his best game this year (not saying much) but still not near what he was his rookie year.

With our team as it is and Hutchinson out for probably the rest of the year, we need people that can get to the quarterback, especially with the faster QB's playing nowadays.

If he can get back to at worst what he showed in '22, I'd take it.

Again, he is at most a 10-15 game snaps player. It has to be a pure pass rushing situation, he is not an end and they loved to play 3 linebackers that can pound the run., fans care more about pressure than the Lions as a franchise do. They are 3rd in defensive DVOA even with the lack of pressure.

Agreed. Aaron Glenn is coaching his rear off. I'm hoping that we have a solid replacement for him as well as Ben Johnson if they both leave after this season.

I wonder how Mr. Smith will be used by the Lions starting this Sunday.

The film breakdown shows all his plays. I agree that he's still a passing down specialist, but those three plays he made were impressive. Not quite the full bend of '22, but he's close.

IMO, they gave Paschal his sack on the one play, so 2 sacks and a heavy pressure in very limited snaps is good. He is mediocre when he's not rushing the passer, but he's starting to look like the excellent pass rusher he used to be.

I'd say the Lions care about pressure; they don't care as much about sacks. They absolutely want to force the QB off schedule, all teams do, but they consider any result that is a negative play to be largely equal.

And ironically, some of Houston's best sacks have come when he initially drops back into coverage, then attacks like a rocket if he has a clear shot.

That breakdown was a nice watch, but it sounded like that guy kept saying "James Houston the Fourf" and once I heard it that way I couldn't unhear it. That could just be my old shitty ears though.
