Goff had a bad game against the Redskins, so did the whole team. The war of injury attrition finally caught up too.

The recent talk on 97.1 has been about how everyone else in the division (especially the Bears) has gotten better and the Lions haven’t done anything. But the when you’re near the top, you can’t make a ton of moves. The Bears can because they’ve been garbage and they have to replace their bad players and they had a lot of cap space.

For example, looking for that opposite EDGE. It's very clear the Lions don't want a pure pass rusher there. Hell, they've outright said as much. They want a containment setter that can also provide occasional pressure on the QB. Is there anyone currently in the pool of players, either by trade or FA that fits that role? I dunno. Maybe Davenport really is the best available guy at the price tag they think they can afford.
The Lions aren't looking for big names that can be built around. They've already got the core. Splashy acquisitions aren't necessarily the best way forward.

Every year people freak out about free agency in the first couple days but a lot of the big signings don't look good a year later. Remember all of the big deals the Lions have done in the first couple days of free agency and think about how well they turned out. I like what the Lions have done so far, you fill holes so you don't have to reach come draft time.
Free agent signings
DJ Reed - thought to be at the top of the corner market. A good replacement for the departing Carlton Davis.
Roy Lopez - I'm not going to say I'm an expert on the guy but Nate Tice was talking him up during the season. He should be in his prime and fills a valuable hole.
Grant Stuard - great special teams player that started to get some snaps on D last year and graded out good. He was a Colt fan favorite.
Kyle Allen - not sure about this one, hopefully it's cheap
Released or lost via free agency
CD - he was replaced by Reed
Zeitler - this one has the potential to hurt, but I think they like some of their young developing lineman
Vildor - I liked Vildor but his time was coming to an end here
Iffy - loved what he brought when healthy which wasn't often
Za'Darius Smith - his contract was too rich for what he was, but it leaves a hole
JRM - they will try to replace him with Turner/Stuard/Pittman and that should work
Major players retained:
Derrick Barnes - probably a slight overpay they like him as the SAM.
Craig Reynolds - he's a decent 3rd or 4th RB. Hopefully a pretty cheap contract
Tim Patrick - good retention, he's a good receiver that blocks and they don't use a 3rd receiver all that much in the passing game
Marcus Davenport - the contract is cheap, he is good when healthy.
Levi Onwuzurike - I was a big fan of his last season when they had him playing inside and outside on a depleted defense. He was great in the final regular season game
Turner and Pittman - good special teams players that can play on defense in a pinch
The key to free agency is the time now until the season starts. The big wave is over but there are a lot of players still out there and you can get some bargains if you have your shit together
