These decisions are difficult and it is why Brad holmes is getting the big bucks and we are not...its easy for the fans to just say spend the money and give up the picks...quite often we are wrong

Wait...are you telling me Brad Holmes knows more than some people on Twitter posting from their couch and have never played a down of organized football in their lives??

Let's see how the defense plays the next three games before making any judgement on what they should do.

In the spirit of total fairness, us as fans can have kneejerk responses to things because there's no real cost to doing so. I'm sure there's more than a handful of people here who would handle the actual decision making with considerably more aplomb if they had to. Not as well as Holmes has done it, for sure, but I can count on both hands just names here that could do the job better than, say, Jerry Jones.

Did you hear about Jerry’s meltdown today? He was on a local Dallas sports radio station, and he threatened to fire the two radio guys he was talking to (the station in question is the official radio station of the Cowboys).

To be fair, up until Holmes, we were all used to being smarter than the Lions GMs.

Right? Think of the brain trusts that have been in charge of this team since the turn of the millennium.

                    Matt Millen
                    Martin Mayhew
                    Bob Quinn

We're not exactly talking about a Murderer's Row of intellect, here.

One of the underrated aspects when they hired Holmes and Campbell is they hired a lot of good football guys behind the scenes. Under Quinn they would show the Lion war room and it was Quinn, Patricia, Sheila and Wood and not much else.

There isn't a pipeline of old Saint and Ram players, but that would have been expected based on past history.

Chris Spielman was the man who suggested to Sheila that Dan Campbell was THEE man.
Chris lays low but he is the best person Sheila could have ever given a job.

I think another important factor is that the people in that war room aren't in over their heads with responsibilities they can't handle, and they seem to be aware of their limitations.

Like Spielman, for example. He probably could have leveraged more responsibilities in those early days of Sheila's ownership. But he didn't. He knew what he was good at, and what he wasn't. There's no Dunning-Krueger effect going on in that front office.

MCDC straight up broke that man.
"Yeah, we just... we don't want them to go. So that's our motivation."

That whole Cowboy organization was yukking it up last year. They were yukking it up after that Lion playoff loss in 2014 . I'm not much for running it up and embarrassing other teams but this was well deserved. The Lions were shoving it in the faces of the refs, Cowboys and the league. As it was the refs were still helping the Cowboys.

In the old days they would have hired Saleh based on it being a consensus league pick. The rumor was Saleh's interview was not good and Campbell blew them away even if he wasn't on the short list.
