  • More bad news: RIP dpatnod

Guys and girls, this sucks. I am sharing a note I received from dpatnod's daughter:

    -----------------------------------------------------

    Hello,

I hope this message gets to the right person. A frequent user here, dpatnod, is my father. It is with deep sadness that I have to share that my dad passed away very unexpectedly in his home last month. The grief that has come with that is truly indescribable. He meant the world to me.

I wanted to pass it along to the people of this community because this place was truly important to him. He spoke so often of his "forum buddies" and I can't remember a time this webpage wasn't pulled up on his computer over the last few years. He spoke most often of a Scottish friend named Marco, always with a laugh and a smile and a story about some funny interaction. And there were many other characters, too, whose names I unfortunately don't remember.

My dad was very introverted and kept to himself a lot of the time, especially in the past few years. I sometimes worried and wished he had more people around him, especially when I moved out of state for work. But it made me feel a lot of happiness to see his face light up when he talked about his friends and antics here.

Thank you for the impact you had on his life. I don't know you, but I know he found a lot of joy being involved here, and I'm truly grateful for that in ways words just can't express. Given how important this was to him, it felt important for me to pass along the news of his passing and say thank you.

    Go Lions!

April 3rd was dpatnod's last activity at the Forum. I noticed he hadn't posted in awhile, but the off-season is always slow around here. I feel badly for his daughter, it's rotten to lose a family member suddenly. It was very kind of her to take the time to let us know about his passing, as well as how much this place meant to him. I will miss him!

Dpatnod and to your daughter and family,

I cannot express how much grief you are going through. I lost both my parents, but KNEW they were dying.
Sudden loss is harder than I can imagine.

Thanks for sharing the joy your daddy had with this forum.

A few months back I had an internet/virus issue and thought the forum was gone. I felt like I lost a whole family.

Your sadness will eventually be replaced by happy memories and I pray for you that happens quickly.

Dear God! A gut punch indeed. WTF is going on? So, so sorry to hear this news. (And Dpatnod; fellow grammar police buddy, that's is two very legal "so's")

You spoke about your daughter a lot. She's heartbroken and she's going to miss you. And to Dpats daughter --->> I hope you are ok and time is the healer.

My post in the "End of the forum" thread; I ended with "Nothing more to say, other than, Stafford Fucking sucks" --->> That was actually for you to read & laugh at because you OWN the most famous thread on this board, even though it was all ironic, you Stafford loving git!

RIP Dpatnod......, this is indeed, 100% the suckiest sucking news to ever suck.

Lions fan, dog lover, family man.

And to think there's people wearing cheese on their head and picking out sweaters for their cat, still wandering the Earth.

                      Ain't right.

                      RIP brother.

Where are we going; and what's up with this hand basket?

dpatnod's daughter (Honnah) sent me the link to the obituary today. He was only 54. :( I hope his dog found a good home.

There is a celebration of life tomorrow in Kalamazoo.
