Guys and girls, this sucks. I am sharing a note I received from dpatnod's daughter:
-----------------------------------------------------
Hello,
I hope this message gets to the right person. A frequent user here, dpatnod, is my father. It is with deep sadness that I have to share that my dad passed away very unexpectedly in his home last month. The grief that has come with that is truly indescribable. He meant the world to me.
I wanted to pass it along to the people of this community because this place was truly important to him. He spoke so often of his "forum buddies" and I can't remember a time this webpage wasn't pulled up on his computer over the last few years. He spoke most often of a Scottish friend named Marco, always with a laugh and a smile and a story about some funny interaction. And there were many other characters, too, whose names I unfortunately don't remember.
My dad was very introverted and kept to himself a lot of the time, especially in the past few years. I sometimes worried and wished he had more people around him, especially when I moved out of state for work. But it made me feel a lot of happiness to see his face light up when he talked about his friends and antics here.
Thank you for the impact you had on his life. I don't know you, but I know he found a lot of joy being involved here, and I'm truly grateful for that in ways words just can't express. Given how important this was to him, it felt important for me to pass along the news of his passing and say thank you.
